Beckelheimer, Jr. Wins Late Model Feature at Columbia Motorsports Park
by Marty Little

LAKE CITY, Fla. - Al Beckelheimer, Jr. pressured leader Walter Reardon for 18 circuits before gaining the top spot to win Saturday night's late model feature event at Columbia Motorsports Park.

Georgia invader Reardon looked very stong on the highly banked half-mile oval but Beckelheimer knows his way around the north Florida oval and made the pass on the back straightaway enroute to the score. Reardon claimed second money in front of Doyle Boatwright, Ray Wheeler and Gig Smith.

The Florida modified headliner was scheduled for 20 laps but after 16 orbits of the steep asphalt it was called due to time with Racin' Jason Garver the wire to wire victor. Several crashes thinned the field and when the checkers flew Roger Webb crossed the stripe behind Garver with Steve Brickhouse, Tommy Wright and James Feagle trailing.

Brian Wheeler blasted from the front row of the 20 lap street stock main for the lead then held off the pressure of Jeff Prescott for his first career victory. Will Jerkins, John Mitchell and Shane Taylor chased the lead duo to the line.

Sixteen year- old Josh Bedenbaugh was also a first time winner as the pencil thin youngster topped the 20 lap pure stock headliner, leading every lap. John Roling was second in front of Russell Patterson, Jason Moesley and Tim Morgan.

The visiting TQ late models went 15 laps with Tony Carrigg the victor over David Rader and Terry Dugger.
