Donald Economy First Time Winner at Hialeah
by Marty Little

HIALEAH, Fla. - Donald Economy was in the right place at the right time and copped his first career feature victory in the Cyclone division main Saturday night at Hialeah Speedway.

Economy, a middle aged rookie, chased Greg Gorniak to the checkers but the latter had problems in post-race inspection and Economy, a life long race fan, found himself with top spot honors. Ken Rickert, Timmy Ryan, Bob Regula and Roger Pfau rounded out the top five runners in the 25 lap event.

The companion Cyclone figure 8 saw Lynn Reid the best of the best as he battled with Eddie Lawler for top honors. Gorniak took third money ahead of Regula and Roger Bohannon.

Gorniak had the best school bus as he and Gabe Hernandez swapped the lead several times in the figure 8 run for the former children haulers. T.C. McElyea, Regula and Bohannon were next to the stripe in the 15 lapper.

Other winners were Phil Cavezza in the backwards event, Eddie Lawler and Joe Fransen in blindfold drive and Fransen in the giant 34 car demolition derby.
