Joe Winchell Takes Home Feature Win at Hialeah Speedway
by Marty Little

HIALEAH, Fla. - Joe Winchell, winless on his home track this season, changed all that Saturday night with a wire to wire victory in the 25 lap late model sportsman headliner at Hialeah Speedway.

Starting from the pole, Winchell was never headed as he easily out distanced Gary Padula, Danny Maddox, Craig Seewald and Stuart Robertson.

The short field of street stocks fell to Tony Barreca for the second time this season and he ran roughshod over Sean Bulaskas, T.C. McElyea and Tom North in the 20 lap run.

Mini stock action saw S.C. Klinger score this third straight victory for the small cars over Tommy Styer, Jim Miner and Frank Rios in the 12 lap run.

Rookie second generation driver Al Grimm scored his first career victory in the cyclone headliner as he edged points leader Mike Powers, Bob Regula, Roger Bohannon and Chris Stockton in the 25 lap event.

Regula came back to win the figrue 8 feature when the first and second place runners, Victor Leo and Eddie Lawler, tangled and crashed on the final lap. Geroge Morales, Stockton and Barreca rounded out the top finishers.
