Drawdy Comes Back with a Win in AACS
By Rick Anges

Bradenton,Fl. Justin Drawdy won the All American Challenge Series championship last year over Jimmy Cope by a narrow margin in the last race of the season. Drawdy collected $10,000 for his year long run for the title. Drawdy and his team have concentrated their efforts towards the ASA for the first art of this year but made their way back to the high-banks this past weekend.

Drawdy came out with a bang taking the top qualifying spot over 25 super late models with a 14.58 lap, second fast went to Dave Pletcher 14.59.

The roll of the die came up a zero and the field was started the way they qualified and when the green dropped Drawdy took off with Pletcher in a comfortable second.

The battles were hot and heavy behind the leaders; early damage to the point’s leader Joe Boyd regulated him to a 9th place finish with some superb pit work by his crew. Jeff Dufresne had a good run in a brand new ride with a Ford power plant under the hood, Dufresne said “ We have a few new car bugs to work out but we will be coming back strong for the next race.”

As the race wound down the leaders were in lapped traffic which allowed Pletcher to close up on Drawdy, but the 12 machine was just strong enough to hold on for the win in his first race back this season. Pletcher had to settle for second, visiting the winners circle for the first time in the AACS was James Glover with a strong third, Jim Smith took the battle for fourth over a hard charging Clint Slaggy who was fifth.

Open Wheel Modifieds

A grinding crash red flagged the Modified race when Dennis Wilson Jr. slammed into a slow moving Jay Coleman on the backstretch. Coleman apparently broke in turn two and couldn’t get down to the infield and before the caution could be thrown Wilson was there. Both cars were heavily damaged fortunately both drivers walked away from the wreck but were both checked out.

Steve “the Rattlesnake” Perez’s race car was hooked up and he held off Wayne “ the Rocketman” Jefferson for his first victory of the season, Jefferson was second, third went the Mopar of Pat Nanney, fourth was Mason Love and fifth went to John Shields.
