Kump Sails to VSP Late Model Win
Joe Kump took his first 2003 Deland Truck Center Late Model Feature win. It took several green flag restarts then a caution by Adam Bennett causing a single file start which allowed Kump to take the lead over John Rankin.

The drivers drove 2 & 3 wide, full throttle the entire race. Kump, Rankin, Brent Chilson, Ro Ho Sims, Paul George & Mike Eubanks ran bumper to bumper testing each other by going high then low sizing up each other for positions. Kump took a commanding lead as Rankin & Sims raced side by side as well as George & Kent Corbin who were battled on their bumpers.

A caution with 5 laps to go bunched up the field allowing the top 5 cars a chance at Kump. Kump jumped to the lead with Rankin, Sims, Corbin & George sitting on his bumper racing for the top spot. Kump took the checkered flag giving takes to Mike McTier -Ford Powered Engines & Walter Newman Racing Chassis for giving him the car that allowed him to fly to the win.

Joey Haslauer won for the 2nd time in 2003 taking the Action Performance Street Stock Feature in a 30 lap, $1000 to win race. Chuck Barney took the lead for a short time as Trevor Gamble passed him for the top spot. Trevor followed closely by Barney, Todd Ponce, John Ripley, Shane Williams and Joey Haslauer gave the VSP fans continually hard charging battling changes of positions during the entire race.

The drivers ran 2 & 3 wide, running low into the turns and high on the straight aways, thrilling the fans. Lap traffic allowed several lead changes as Tony Knowles and Paul Shead used them to come from the middle of the pack into the top 6 competing for the win.

Lady Luck wasn't kind to Gamble as with 4 laps to go he lost power as well as the lead. Haslauer took the lead holding off the hard charges of Ponce, Kevin Zahnen, Dale Shade, Paul Shead, Tony Knowles and Mike Lanich.

Alan Peacock fought for his 2nd win in 2003 in The Speedway Pull-N-Save Hobby Stock A-Main Feature. The green flag dropped as the field of 24 ran door handle to door handle, 3 & 4 wide, sliding all over the track for position. Several cautions and restarts allowed Peacock to take the lead with John Palmer David Kinsey, Kory Bush, Steve Oldaker, Joe Belkey, Dennis North and Travis Gamble sat on his bumper. The top three ran full throttle trying to maintain positions as Belkey, Bush, Gamble & North ran side by side for position.

Palmer who was running in 2nd took a hard shot up into turn 4 wall as something broke eliminating his chance for the win. It was a freight train of cars diving down low in the turns then gliding up high next the straight away walls as they all battled closely for position. Time expired on lap 16 with the top 7, Peacock,Kinsey,Oldaker, North, Belkey, Gamble & Bush taking the checkered inches apart.

Johnny Westfall took The Speedway Pull-N-Save B-Main Feature win. Westfall took the lead away from Calvin Christian as he flew to the win several car links ahead of his competitors.

Charlie MacNichol took his 2nd 2003 win in The Certified Auto World Mini Stock Feature. MacNichol took the lead after several cautions plagued the start of the race. The field of 22 ran the entire race banging off each other, running side by side with nobody giving an inch. Donnie Ashford, James McCague, Jackie Rhames & Mark Eldrigde ran pedal to the medal as they passed cars in their quest for the top spot. ]

Ashford pulled on the outside as Mark Eldridge drove down low on MacNichols as they served notice to the leader they wanted the top spot. Lady Luck again eluded Jackie Rhames as she was caught up in a collision as McCague got loose, Rhames had no were to go. A caution for Jimmy Wise along with time expiring caused a one lap shoot out for the win. MacNichol held of the hard charges of Ashord & Eldridge as they split him trying to take the lead, with no luck. MacNichol put the pedal to the metal and held onto the win as he crossed the checkered ahead of his competitors.

Shawn Pawlak took The Pure Stock Feature win at VSP. The field of 21 pulled out all stops as the green flag dropped. Steve Buker held the lead only to lose control in turn 3 ended up in the pits instead of the front straightaway. The race endured several major collisions causing time to expire. Pawlak held of the hard charges of Rick Picard, Brad Fender, John Blood, Mark Reiter for the win.
