Clegg does it again at Volusia Speedway Park

BARBERVILLE, Fla. (April 9, 2003) - VSP provided it's packed grandstands with some heart stopping racing action. Ro Ho Sims lost his chance in the first heat to win another late model feature when his car slammed extremely hard into the front straight away wall. He was shaken up, okay but the car was done for the night.

David Clegg won for the 2nd time in 3 weeks The Deland Truck Center Late Model Feature. Clegg drove his Daves A1 Auto Parts, Bunnell Supply, Clegg Sod Farms, Koury Racing Engine late model anywhere he he wanted to capture another win. Clegg overtook Mike Eubanks on lap 2 for the lead and never looked back. Eubanks, Brett Carlton, Scott Thompson, Lawton Minchew, and Paul George put constant pressure on Clegg but he prevailed for the win this time. Joey Haslauer won The Action Performance Street Stock Feature for his first in 2003 season. Haslauer jumped int the lead on lap 1 with George Lane on his tail. Lane sized up the leader going high then low, bumper to bumper, inches apart for his chance at the lead position. Todd Ponce, Shane Williams, Dale Shade, Paul Shead,John Ripley & Pat Vareika were racing full throttle, swamping paint for 3rd position as Haslauer & Lane pulled 3 - 4 car links. Haslauer lost his major contender when Lane all the sudden fell off pace and had to pit for mechanical problems. LeBeau spun causing a 1 lap shoot for the win. Haslauer wasn't going to be denied as he took the checkered flag. Landon Lungren won The Speedway Pull-N-Save Hobby Stock A Main Feature for his 1st in the 2003 season. Lungren raced his Major Medical, B & W Fernery, V. Waters Foliage, Princess Potty II sponsored hobby stock full throttle the entire race to capture the win. Grady Christian, Travis Gamble, Tim Hughes, Richard Price, Joe Belkey, Dennis North & Alan Peacock battled door handle to door handle, inches apart, 3 wide and 2 deep, swamping paint for position. Team mates Price & North showed each other no mercy as they fought dust flying, sideways with the pedal to metal for position. Lungren had Christian pull beside him on the white flag lap, for lead. Christian spun doing a 360, avoiding the entire field. The top 8 drivers started dodging Christian but never slowed up as the fight for the lead was still on and no caution was thrown. Lungren took the checkered with team mates, Price & North on either side of his bumper not giving an inch fighting for 2nd position. Kenny Campbell #c9 won the Hobby Stock B-Main Feature over Al Sanville #55,Leon Turner #1, John Apgar #7, Rick Cowart #03, Shannon McConnell #5, Glen Baum #23, Chuck Jackson #10, Tony Orlando #99 and Alan Stanley #65

The Certified Auto World Mini Stock Feature for 1st win in 2003 season was Mark Eldridge. 22 cars raced battling hard, 3/4 wide, bouncing off each other and turned walls for position. Rick Picard did a 360 spin fight for position with Mike Ponce which allowed Charlie MacNichol to take the lead on lap 2. Ryan Vansickle, Donnie Ashford, Art Souther, Mark Eldridge & Rick Riedel battled 3 wide, sliding sides bouncing off each other for position. On lap 16 the race was red flagged as Morgan Summerall #90 hit front wall extremely hard causing him flip 3 times end over end, landing on the front straightway upside down. Summerall got out waved to cheering fans as they had waited anxiously for word as well as his wife Shannon & son Jeremy. Summerall was transported to the hospital for observation as a precaution but driver is doing fine. Eldridge, Vansickle, MacNichol, Mills & Riedel started the restart with Eldridge jumping out in front for the lead and the win. Mark Reiter took his 2nd Pure Stock Feature win almost uncontested the entire race. The strong field of 24 cars took the green running 3 wide, bouncing off the each other for position. Red Flag was thrown for Allie Owens as she took a hard hit in turn 4. Owens was shaken but fine. Reiter kept the lead with Shawn Pawlak running 2nd full throttle but still 6-7 car links behind the leader. Reiter looked like he was on a Sunday stroll when he took the checkered flag.
