(Mar 29th 2003) Tampa, FL.- Eastbay Raceway Park saw 3 drivers get their very 1st Feature event wins Saturday Night in front of an excited crowd.
Mini-Stocks sponsored by the Trio of Hill’s Dirt Pits, Pioneer Tire & Auto and Buzbee Aquatics saw only 3 laps in the books after 17 minutes on the clock, but rallied to get all 15 laps in with Wallace Peacock’s 1P taking the win on the track. Unfortunately for Wallace he was found light on the scales, DQ for the event and pass the 1st time win over to Mike Tidwell in the 63X. Mike’s first win was not the way he wanted it, so he’s still looking for number one on the track. Tonight’s second place would fall to the 21 of Dorsey Strickland, third was Brian Debore’s 63 and forth was the 18th starter Scott Howard in the 9. Fifth went to Rich Livernois in the 71.
Street Stocks had the second of our 1st time visitor’s to victory lane, as the 89 of Jack Rowland out lasted the youngsters for his first win. Second went to the 03 of Mac Kersey, with Eric Johnson going third, Bruce Harvey’s 27 forth and Paul Gibbs hung on in the 2 for the top five finish.
Limited Late Models seemed to be anyone’s feature for the first 6 or 8 laps, but once the 21 of Forrest Gough got out front he never looked back. Winning it in a hard fought battle in the end, Gough would hold off the 48 of Bill Howard. Third was the 15 of Roger Crouse, Jeff Mathew’s 33 was forth and Phillip Brower brought the 71 from it’s 18th starting spot to 5th.
Open Wheel Modifieds sponsored by Gagel’s Auto Parts round off the tri-fecta of 1st time winners, as the E1 of Jerry White visited the winner’s circle for the very first time. The 00 of young Greg Reutimann tested the veteran Bobby Dixon’s 205 as they went second and third. The B12 of Bruce Watkins finished forth, with pole sitter Jeff Conyers bringing the 47 in fifth.
Late Models came to the green flag 20 cars strong this week. When the feature finished it was the young gun Jeff Choquette in the 70 winning his second feature event in a row, in a last lap test of concentration that saw Bobby Dixon falter just enough in the 2 car to finish second. The always hard charging Choquette started 13th and did not take the lead until turn two on the white flag lap. The 88 of Donnie Tanner got third, with the 12 of Jack Nosbisch, Jr., forth and K.D. Kelly’s 00 finishing 5th.
