IT'S TIME TO RACE!!

Eastbay Raceway Park Gets All Feature Laps In
by Bill Green

After mother nature cancelled opening night of the Go-Karts Under The Lights on Friday Night, fans of Eastbay Raceway Park were treated to a Saturday Night of completed features. As every lap scheduled for feature event racing was completed as local radio host Bevis Wildchild, from Eastbay Raceway Park's official radio station, 92.5 NASCAR Country looked on.

Getting the night off to a proud USA start was Nashville recording artist and multipule award winning singer, Ann Marie, belting our National Anthem in fan cheering style. The racing action did not disappoint a capasity crowd.

Street Stocks kicked off the night with 22 cars taking the green flag for the feature event. Seven cars finished after 4 yellows and 1 red flag for the 64 of Austin Sanders. He tested the inside front stretch water and tire barriers on the initial start. Sanders was unhurt, but the $20 extra dollars per car for a green to checkered run was gone. Winning the feature was points leader, Bruce Harvey (27), followed by the Johnson & Johnson duo of Steven (14) and Eric (41) with Jack Rowland (89) fourth and Mark Alderman (91) fifth.

Late Models stumbled through a 25 lap feature with only 5 cautions as the 16 year old young gun Jeff Choquette (70) showed that his great runs at this years Winter Nationals were no fluke. Choquette took the lead on lap 5 and held off several veteran attempts to make a pass. Going second was pass Champion Keith Nosbisch (02) with Roger Crouse (15) third, Donnie Tanner (88) forth and David Schmauss (105) rounding out the top five.

Twenty-one Winged Sprints took the green flag with veteran sprinter and car owner Taylor Andrews returning to action after a long lay-off. Starting outside row one Andrews (88T) drove to the lead around pole sitter Danny Martin, Jr. (00). Both would lead most of the laps, but neither would be there at the end. The red 21 of Johnny Gilbertson would out last the last place starting 88 of "Superman" Sport Allen who went second. Third was Brian Maddox (82), forth went to Tom Winegardner, Jr (11T) and fifth to (5M) Phill Mott. Also, glad to report Joe Melnick was OK after his tumble on the back stretch in heat 1 in the 8M car.

Mini Stocks returned this week with Chad Rose (7Jr) winning. He held off the constant challenge of second place finisher Dorsey Strickland (21), third finisher Brian Debore (63), forth to Jimmy Waldrop (51) and a top 5 finish for Jim Courson (73).

Limited Late Models saw Terry Gay (90) win his third feature of the young season, with Jeff Mathews (33) coming from 17th starting position to second in a 15 lap feature. Third was (007) J.R. Prather, Jr, forth (29) William Hampton and getting a top five finish was Bill Howard (48) after a wild last lap tangle with Forrest Gough (21) while battling for 2nd.

Tabby Percell went home a happy race fan, as the young lady won tonight's 50/50 drawing of $521 even. It's just that easy to win at Eastbay Raceway Park. See you Friday Night March 29th as it's Go-Karts Under The Lights, mother nature willing. And next Saturday it's Open Wheeled Modifieds and Limited Sprints with the rest of the regular classes. Racing starts at 7PM.

We'll See You At The RACES!!!
