BARBERVILLE, FL - Central Pennsylvania driver Lance Dewease led wire-to-wire in non-stop fashion Saturday night at Volusia Speedway Park in the Haulmark All Star sprint car 25 lap feature. The win made Dewease the third different winner in three nights of action at Volusia and came aboard Al Hamilton's Kistler-powered J&J. It was the 19th career All Star win for Dewease, who picked up a feature win here last season. Drivers from nine different states made up the top ten finishers in the feature.
Dewease was on the pole for the start of the twelve and a half mile contest with Jason Johnson alongside him, and it was Chad Kemenah and Greg Hodnett in row two followed by Danny Lasoski and Craig Dollansky in row three. At the drop of the green, Dewease powered into the lead over Johnson and never looked back. He was so quick on the half mile oval that he entered lapped traffic on lap five and expertly sliced his way through the backmarkers, keeping Johnson's Kistler-Eagle owned by Harrison Trucking at bay all race long.
Johnson, the Louisiana driver who won Friday night's main here, held off Craig Dollansky, the only driver able to move up several positions on the fast track surface. Behind third place Dollansky, from Minnesota, it was Memphis driver Hodnett in Bob Stewart's Apple Motorsports No. 12 Don Ott-powered Maxim. Defending All Star champion Kemenah, from Findlay, Ohio wheeled Jim Harble's Kistler powered Eagle home fifth, followed by the leading feature winner from last season, Maryland's Jeff Shepard. Missouri's Danny Lasoski followed in the Tony Stewart owned Kistler-Mopar Eagle chassis, with Ohio's Dean Jacobs in the Pullins Motorsports No. 29 Fisher-Maxim, Indiana's Joey Saldana in the Stauffer Ott-Shaw and Pa's Fred Rahmer in the Harz Racing 88 completing the top ten.
The Crown Battery heat fell to Dollansky, the B&B Products heat went to Dewease, the Engler Machine and Tool heat was won by Paul McMahan and the TP Wings heat fell to Shepard. Bill Rose won the United Aluminum Window Sales & Consulting B Main. Dollansky was the Huggins Cams fast qualifier.
"America's Series, The Haulmark All Star Circuit of Champions" will present a slate of 80 sprint car race dates in 2003 from February to October in action at 31 speedways in 17 states. America's favorite dirt track series is in its' 23rd year and has presented fans with the largest average car count and greatest number of different race winners in the United States over the past two decades.
