Kevin Durden Collects World 100 Hobby Stock Feature
Barberville, Fla - Over 212 race teams arrived at Volusia Speedway Park ready to kick off the 2003 season. Durden #56 led the field from start to finish, #lm Dave Kinsey was in hot pursuit but only to take second place. Racers from seven stat4es came to try their luck. Third went to #54 Tuck Trentham, fourth to #83 Karl Willard, and rounding out the top five #0 Billy Bishop.
The Street Stock 100 provided great racing action. Wally Schneider #57 inherited the win after Shane Williams #lM led the event with #23 Toby Simms on his bumper. Simms had problems on lap 85, spun and lost the lead. Second place to Jason Floyd #73, Karl Willard #83 third, Tony Knowles #66 fourth and Pat Williams #lm fifth.
The Late Model event started with 28 race cars, Steve #00 led the 30 lap event from start to finish was challenged by #22 Brett Carlton, until lap 17 when Carlton and #88 Paul George came together on the front straight away. George was taken out of the race and Carlton went to the rear. Lade continued to lead the event with second place to #99 Brett Chilson, third to #17 Joe Kump, #23 Lawton Minchew fourth and #9 Rod Burton placed fifth.
Race teams came from as far away as Pennyslvania, Maryland, North and South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama and from all parts of Florida.
The Pure Stock feature was won by #23 Mark Reiter and Mini Stock winner was #66 Donnie Ashford.
