Florida Pro Series Finale

LAKE CITY, Fla - Darryl Shelnut quickly bonded with Jimmy Harris' potent orange and white Chevrolet Sunday afternoon and ran to a convincing win in the Sunoco/Suwannee 200 for Florida Pro Series late models at Columbia Motorsports Park.

Chilling temperatures kept the crowd down but the action trackside was nothing short of blazing. Mac Johnson set the early pace off the outside of the front row for the first 15 circuits around the banked half-mile oval as Shelnut, who has been inactive for much of the season, settled in for the long haul.

By lap 16 Shelnut put the fleet No. 00 on the point but had Michael Williams for a shadow. Williams, making his first ever start here, never missed a beat and would not let Shetnut get away as the twosome ripped through traffic.

A yellow flag flew for a harmless spin on lap 135 and on the restart three laps later Shelnut took off while Williams coasted to the pits with driveline failure as Jimmy Cope took up the challenge on Shelnut.

They ran the blance of the event in the same order with Johnson, Rick Carlton and Michael Faulk rounding out the top five finishers. The companion 50 lap Florida modified feature fell to Dave Dunkin with a good drive over Mike Johnson, Josh Byrd, Scott Miller and Jerry Symons.
