Hialeah Features Late Models - Winchell Wins

(Hialeah, FL; 11/4/2000) Joe Winchell took the lead on lap 53 and never looked back as he ran to an unchallenged win in the 10th Annual Al Gosney Memorial 100 for Late Model Sportsman cars Saturday night at Hialeah Speedway.

Starting fifth in the 26 car field, Winchell settled in early as Travis McCoy set the pace from the outside of the front row. Moving to third on lap 17, Winchell put pressure of Bobby Beauchemin, taking second on lap 47 when Beauchemin bobbled. McCoy spun off turn two on lap 53 and Winchell assumed the point. From then on he was never challenged despite several late race yellow flags which grouped the field. The victory was his fourth in the event as well as his fourth at the track this season. Greg Kaouk turned in a good steady driver for runner-up honors ahead of Charlie Coyle, Beauchemin and Larry Rogero.

Gary Padula ran to his first Street Stock victory of the season in a wire-to-wire run in the 25-lap main. Jake Reedy claimed second money over Rick Lutz, Craig Seewald and Mike Orth in the final rundown.

Mini-Stock action saw Buddy Sizemore and his Toyota dominate for his fourth win of the campaign in the 25-lapper with David Russell, Scott Rogers, early leader Richard Thomas and Jim Miner rounding out the top five.

Heather Lunsford inherited the Cyclone win when apparent victor Scott Evans failed to have his car inspected. Ken Rickert, George Morales, Mike Powers and Frank Kelliher were next to the stripe in the 25-lap run.
