Jason Boyd Winner at NSS

(New Smyrna, FL; 10/29/2000) Jason Boyd driving the #15 Boyd Racing Engines Chevy qualified on the pole in the Country 93.1 Late Model 100 lap final race. He charged to the front and held off a furious run by Scott Bramlett #26 to get the feature win.

A good field of cars were on hand to challenge Boyd, but several fast cars fell out early including Chris Lawrence and Randy Dye. Boyd took the lead from David Logan on lap 21, but it was Scott Bramlett in Murphy’s #26 that looked like the car that might challenge the #15. Scott got under Jason on lap #71, but lost it and had to go to the back.

After the last restart on lap #81, Boyd never looked back and got the win over the #17 SARA car of Scott Crossey. Third went to the #27 of Richard Baer of Miami; fourth was points leader Mike Williams in the Sears& #8217; #9, and David Logan put the #1 car fifth. Mike Williams clinched the points battle and is the 2000 Country 93.1 Champion.

When Jerry Symons #66 takes the grid, most agree he will be the car to beat in the Modifieds. Wayne Parker drove the #3 Cadillac for all it had, but had to settle for second to Symons' super fast black Lefthander. The third spot eventually went to the #16 of Justin Henderson, and Joe Middleton put the #71 in fourth. The #70 Dodge Daytona of Dave Saviki was paid for fifth. A nice, clean event.

It was the #55 Ford Probe of Rick “Concrete” Tumey who dominated the Mini-Stock field. He drove to victory over the #64 of Mark Rigsby. The third spot was filled in by St. Pete native Tim McPhail driving the white #30 Missile. Jamie McCague's #8 slipped past JD Duncan's #37 for fourth.

The Sportsman feature saw some controversy surrounding the first time win of Steve Redditt in the #1 blue Pontiac Gran Prix. Doug Samion in the #04 Rinaldi’s Air car tried every line he could to get around Redditt, but couldn’t pass. Both Redditt and Samion ended up in victory lane for a heated discussion with the flagman about a restart where Samion had taken the lead, but was called back. Redditt was eventually credited with the win. Samion was paid for second; third went to John Nusbaum in the hot, black #70 (a nice guy that needs sponsor help); Kevin Hawkinberry placed the #80 in the fourth spot, and Ron Lufcy drove the #07 to a fifth place finish. The real disappointment of the evening was the absence of the 0-no car. He was sorely missed by his many fans.

Jim Winterstein’s #13 Olds is the fastest Super Stock at NSS. We can say whatever we want, but this car is the car to beat every time. Saturday night, he embarrassed the Chevrolet field again by winning with a half-track lead after lifting at the flag stand! The Wildman, Chris Peledat, in the #28 came home second, a career best. Teddy Helms was paid for third in his Orange #61 Buick. Mike Soukup #45 ran fourth. Many female fans were heard asking where Homer “Ladies Man& #8221; Gordon #22 was.

Strictly Stock: Richard Bolton #78, Rod Moss #35, Chris Kirkgard #25 & James Dyal #26.
