Hialeah Features Fast Trucks

(Hialeah, FL; 10/28/2000) Fred Schenk scored one for the over-50 set Saturday night as he copped the 25-lap Street Stock feature at Hialeah Speedway.

Eric Reynolds set the early pace until the engine in his car came apart on lap four, and Schenk put his Dodge Challenger out front. Once on the point, he never looked back, claiming his first win in several seasons. Bob Hogan, Tony Barreca, point leader Chalo DeCastro and Craig Seewald trailed.

For the second consecutive week, Troy Howell ran well in his Pinto Mini-Stock. This week, he brought it home for the win in the 25-lap main. Tim Jones gave chase, but settled for second money over David Russell, Jim Miner, and Tedd Callihan.

The visiting Fast Trucks feature saw second generation driver, Todd Bontrager, grab the lead with two laps remaining and speed to the win in the 30-lap Sawgrass Ford Challenge. Shawn Icely set the early pace until Danny Glover took command on lap five. Glover's mount died on lap 24 with Icely back in front, but a red flag four rounds later saw Icely's truck unable to restart. Bontrager grabbed the top spot at that point and sped to the victory over local driver Curt Haywood, Bryan Donohue, James Glover and Gary Foxworth.

Jose Carbonell, Jr. notched his first career win in the Cyclone 25-lapper. Keith Vitale gave chase, but could not mount a challenge and checkered second over Robert Sark, Robert Sark and Ken Rickert.

Doug Capps topped Mike Harrison and Brett Jameson in the Mini-Cup main.
