Steve Johnson Claims First Street Stock Victory At East Bay

(Tampa, FL; 10/20/2000) Steve Johnson of Plant City took the lead on lap 11 when leader, Terry Bronson, spun out, and held off teammate Jerry White to claim his first Street Stock victory. Johnson led laps 1 though4, before giving up the lead to Bronson on lap 10. Bronson and Danny Paris made contact, resulting in both contenders being taken out, giving the lead back to Johnson. Bronson went to the rear, while Paris was sent to the infield for rough driving. White held on for second over Timmy Bronson, Danny McCall, and Steve Burch. Heats went to Paris, Terry Bronson, Gene Ford, while Daniel Lewis took the Consi.

In Sprint cars, Michael Smith took the lead from Gene Lasker on lap 18 then easily cruised home for his second win in the Mulligan #3. Roland Johnson, Greg Leonard, Robbie Smith, Danny Martin, Jr. followed. Heats went to Michael Smith and Sport Allen.

Ed Hill led the first 11 laps of the Limited Late Model main, giving the lead up to David Schmauss, who just edged out Jeff Matthews at the line for the win. Following Schmauss, Matthews, and Hill across the line was Don Gansner and Danny Bowman. Heats went to Matthews and Bowman.

The Mini-Stocks fell to Scotty Williams over Jamie Burrows, William Hampton, Ken Rutledge, and Tony Pineiro.

Keith Nosbisch grabbed the lead from Greg Meredith on lap 19, and easily cruised home the winner in Late Model action. Bill Howard, Ken Nosbisch, David Schmauss, and Bobby Alexander, Jr. rounded out the top five.

In Limited Sprints, Clyde Poole took the lead from Tim George on lap 14 to claim the win. George held on for second over Andy Kelley, Terry Fritcher, and Darrin Miller. Heats went to George and Matt Mercer.

Condolences go out to Andy and David Kelley on the loss of their sister, Glenda Darlene McGowen.

Congratulations to the 2000 Champions: Sprints - Johnny Gilbertson; Late Models - Donnie Tanner; Limited Late Models - Jeff Matthews; Mini-Stocks - Devin Dixon; Limited Sprints - Tim George; and Street Stocks - Danny McCall.
