"Dare To Win" Features Award Eleven New Winners

(Inverness, FL; 10/14/2000) With the end of the season looming on the horizon, Citrus County Speedway drivers were more determined than ever to get into the winner's column before it is all over. Non-winners had two chances to go to the winner's circle Saturday night with "Dare to Win" night. Four prospects for the non-winner second features of the night were dropped from that line-up after scoring their first win of the season in their division.

Scott Grossenbacher came to Citrus, determined to get ready for the November 4th Florida Pro 125 and found the groove that worked for him. He outran Herb Neumann, Jr., Dale Sanders, Danny Johnson and Billy Becktelheimer in a nose-to-tail 35-lap feature for his first ever win at Citrus County Speedway. Dale Sanders was running for Mike Bresnahan in the point's race, which put some more cushion in his lead with a third place run by Sanders. Bresnahan was helping Ricky Carlton take a third place finish in the Governor's Cup Race at New Smyrna. Keith Zavrel came up with his first-ever feature win in the Late Model "Dare To Win" race.

George Neumann overcame weeks of frustration trying to get his new Limited Sportsman ride to work for him, with his first win in the division Saturday night. Johnny Sanders held off a very aggressive John Gann in the run for second. Early leader Clint Foley fell off the pace but was able to hold on to fourth over Bill Oestricher in the 20-lap, 16 car main event.

Mark Dominique outran Robert Aaron to take his first-ever checkered flag in the Sportsman "Dare To Win" race.

Rookie Don Teague logged his first Street Stock feature over a 24-car field in their 20-lap main event. Point leader Wes Wilson slipped by his father Harley Sr. in the final lap to take a second place finish while Harley held out for third followed by David Kingsbury and Otis Hamilton. Rookie John LeVecque held off a nine-car "Dare To Win" field for his first win in the division.

Two new winners came out of the Hobby Stock division also when teen-ager Kreg Belcastro held off defending champion Roy Perkins in the 20-lap main event. Richie Smith put on a final five lap challenge for the front spot but had to settle for third over J.D. Goff who ran out of steam on the final lap. Early leader Brandon Johnson survived an early spin and came back from the rear of the pack to salvage a 5th place finish. Jeff Sharp picked up his first win in the "Dare to Win" race.

Seventeen Mini-Stocks took the green flag in their 20-lap first feature and Frank Coleman had little trouble taking his 5th win of the season. Mike Moore stayed busy through the entire race in his run for second, being chased from scratch starter Mark Sowell who was going for the Start from Behind bonus along with George Neumann. Kevin Harrod outran Neumann in the run for fourth. Billy Smith came up the winner in the "Dare To Win" race over a nine-car field.

Shaun Kipp survived the 15-car Street Legal Junker mayhem for the win, snatching the lead away from Eric Sharrone in lap 13 of the 15-lap run. Millie Miller won her first ever race in their "Dare to Win" run.

Fast-qualifier Jason Reisman looked like he had the 17-car Florida Legend Fall Shoot-Out field covered, until he broke an axle in lap 20 of their 30-lap feature run. James Rodreguez picked up the point and hard charger Andy Logan just didn't have enough to make the pass, giving Rodreguez the win. Rod Sanders, Dwayne Bryan and Tim Bagnall took the balance of the top five spots.

In a thirty-minute slam banging Demo Derby, 17-cars went to the death and Jeremy Burton of Holiday bailed out of his burning car to take the $600 win purse. Homosassas driver, Chad Halleen, finished second and a crashing and banging Ed Ribblett from Dade City held on for third.

Next Saturday will kick off the final four weeks of the season with the M. Dominique Mobile Home Restoration Limited Sportsman 40 plus Mini-Cup cars and Figure-8's balancing out a full race card of Late Models, Street Stocks, Mini-Stocks, Hobby Stocks and Street Legal Junkers.
