Ferry Leads Wire-to-Wire for Late Model Stock Feature Win

(Lake City, FL; 10/1/2000) Second generation racer Richard Ferry blasted from his pole starting position and led all 25 laps to win Saturday night's Late Model Stock feature event at Columbia Motorsports Park.

Ferry was trailed early by Al Beckleheimer, Jr. and later by Eddie Gainey and they crossed the line in that order. Beckleheimer claimed third money over Richard Tucker and Todd Blevins.

Shannon Smith proved to be the hot ticket in the 20-lap run for the Florida Modifieds as he took the lead on lap three from Rick McManaway and never looked back. McManaway drove a steady race to claim runner-up honors ahead of James Feagle, Shawn Taylor and Bill Hopson.

Ray Wheeler and Debbie Shepard swapped the lead several times during the Money Man 35 for the Street Stocks, but when the checkers flew it was Wheeler first to the line as he led the final nine circuits. Gale Grayer crossed the stripe second in front of Clinton Keen, Charles Seroki and Nick Reid.

Jerry Fortner used a last lap, last corner pass to overhaul Danny Coleman and win the 15-lap Pure Stock headliner following a late race caution period. William Jerkins, John Ray McNeal and Trish Berry chased the lead duo to the line.
