Klinger Fends Off Field for 50-Lap Mini-Stock Victory

(Hialeah, FL; 9/23/2000) Finally able to get comfortable with his car, Ricky Rogero led wire-to-wire to win Saturday night's 25-lap Late Model Sportsman feature event at Hialeah Speedway.

Starting from the pole position, Rogero put his Palmetto Plumbing Chevy in front and never looked back, fending off the challenges of Danny Maddox enroute to the checkers. Bobby Shelton claimed third money over Gary McGoron and Steve Holt.

John Covington made it look easy as he sped to his fourth Street Stock win of the year. Tony Barreca led early but it was Covington who used the high lane to the front and beat point leader Chalo DeCastro to the stripe in the 25 lapper. Barreca was third ahead of Gary Potter and Mike Orth.

Former division champion S.C. Klinger made his first Mini-Stock start of the year a successful one as he topped David Russell in the Total Control Electronics backed 50-lap special. Klinger hustled the Sizemore Toyota into the lead on lap 39 following a spin by leader Scott Rogers, then spent the balance of the race fending off the challenges of fast qualifier Russell for the win. Jim Miner took third money over Rogers and his brother, Eric Rogers.

Tony Crowder topped the 21 car Cyclone field for the second time this season with a good drive over Roger Bohannon, George Morales, Roger Pfau and Heather Lunsford.

The special 10 lap kid's race saw David Deilmann drive his father's car to victory over Billy Harmon, Joey Morales, Shannon Welter and Tommy Styer.

Bruce Moerlins topped Larry Welter and Greg Gorniak in the specialty tire race.
