Allan Struble Gets Win in Citrus County Limimted Late Models

It has been awhile since Mike Bresnahan has been to Victory Lane but the trip Saturday night made up for the close but no cigar runs he has had over the past 16 weeks. Bresnahan picked up the $1,300 Consolidated Freightways Late Model Big Purse Challenge in a flag-to- flag win over John Lovelady, Dan Johnson, Herb Neumann, Jr. and Perry Lovelady.

Fifteen cars took the green flag and the race for turn one determined who the eventual winner would be. Bresnahan and Lovelady took their heat wins and on the pill draw they started straight up. Bresnahan picked up another 7 points over runner-up, Danny Johnson, in the point race with his fourth feature win and 11th heat win of the season.

In preparation for the M. Dominique Mobile Home Restoration Limited Sportsman 40 next week, Allan Struble won the pole Saturday night and set the pace all the way for his first win of the season. George Neumann locked on to Struble but couldn't make the pass and had to settle for second over Travis Nichols, Mike Veltman, and David Dollar. John Gann and Jim Smith picked up the heat wins. The Limited Sportsman will be racing for a proposed $5000 purse next week in their 40-lap special. Winner should take home $1,000.

Sport Wilson made it two in a row Saturday night. After winning the Street Stock 40 last week in a breeze, he moved into the lead in lap six. The only driver that had anything for him at the end was Mike Bell, who finished a strong second. Ernie Reed, Otis Hamilton, and Victor Stanley survived a knock down battle for third, fourth, and fifth, in that order. Heat wins went to Reed and Wes Wilson.

Kevin Harrod was back in action after having to take a couple of weeks off with a blown motor being replaced. While he was off, designated drivers put him in second place in the point race. He came back strong Saturday night and took a flag-to-flag win for his fourth of the season, and picked up another 2 points on George Neumann who just about has a lock on the point crown for 2000. Mark Sowell, Frank Coleman, George Neumann and Rob Wheatley round out the top five. Heat winners were Neumann and Robbie Yoakam.

J.D Goff survived several close calls in a very physical Hobby Stock race and took home the three in a row bonus for his 8th win of the season. Pole sitter, Jeff Sharp, slipped to fifth and managed to come back for a second place finish with Mickey Burns, Chris Hooker, and Beau Stevenson not too far behind. Mike Ruff and Brandon Johnson logged the heat wins.

Mini-Cup cars made their first of two appearances and 20 of the half- scale Winston Cup cars made the feature start. Doug Smith of Valrico proved to be the man to beat, taking his heat win and the feature race. The race was called in lap 17 after a head-on crash flipped the second place car driven by Terry Tullis of Winter Haven. Tommy Gray of Gainesville looped his car in turn four and Tullis never saw him until it was too late. Rounding out the top five were Colt Smith of Lakeland, Kerry Lee Tillis and Bob Struyk, of Reddick. The Mini-Cup cars will be back on October 21st.

Eric Sharrone managed to take his second Street Legal Junker win in a row, and this time made it through tech inspection with no complications. Tim Hundley won the six car Suitcase Race and picked up the best-dressed award plus taking second place in the Street Legal Junker race.

Next Saturday will feature the M. Dominique Mobile Home Restoration
Limited Sportsman 40 for $1,000 to win. Figure-8's return plus a full
race card of Late Models, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, Hobby Stocks and Street Legal Junkers.
