Steve Godlewski Awarded Street Stock Win at Hialeah

(Hialeah, FL; 9/2/2000) Kendrick Gomez jumped to the lead at the drop of the initial green flag and sped to his second win of the season in the 25-lap late model sportsman headliner Saturday night at Hialeah Speedway.

Bobby Shelton kept the pressure on Gomez throughout but had to settle for runner-up honors over Danny Maddox, Bob Regula and points leader Gary McGoron.

Street Stock specialist, Steve Godlewski knows it's better to be lucky than good as he never led a single lap but came away with the win in the 25 lap run. It appeared that Rick Lutz was the victor, but his Chevy could not pass post-race tech inpection and Godlewski was awarded his fourth win of the season. Mike Orth claimed second money over Chalo DeCastro, early leader Ron Wilson and Ken Carter.

Robert Goldsbury led the early laps but it was Mini-Stock point leader, Kenny Strong, who came home with a big win in the small car 25-lap feature. Strong took the lead on lap six and never looked back, finishing well ahead of Goldsbury, Steve Quick, Jim Miner and Bob Goode.

Rick Lenhardt easily topped the 19-car Cyclone field as he got out front cleanly on lap six and just drove away for his third win this season. Trailing were Jeff Brown in his best ever finish, Don Morey, Mike Powers and Gabe Hernandez.

Mike Harrison topped the accident-marred Mini-Cup run over Doug Capps and Carlos Gonzalez.
