Allen Returns

(Gibsonton, FL; 8/7/2000) Sport Allen made his return to East Bay's 1/3-mile clay oval in high style as he took home the money in the Greg Leonard backup car on Budweiser night. As it seemed that Taylor Andrews in the Dayton Andrews 88 might be the guy to beat as he took the point. With Andrews out front he seemed to be on his way but lapped traffic would come into play and on and Sport Allen in tow. By lap 7, the 3A sprinter would have the point. On lap 12 a close call as Allen was attempting to lap Gene Lasker, he got into the back of the black 41 that caused Lasker to lose it going into turn one and collecting Taylor Andrews, and Mike Partin. Allen was never to be challenged the remaining 20 laps. Allen noted in the post race interview that he had caused the turn one wreck on lap twelve "because I lost my brakes." A great job of driving with or without brakes!

The Late Models had a familiar face with Bill Howard running on the bottom of a track that held water all night, making it very tough for anyone else to stay on the low side. Howard stayed in the moisture instead of running on the rubber that had been laid down earlier which proved to be the trick. The heat races were action packed when a three car pileup with Bobby Alexander Sr., Bobby Alexander, Jr. and Steve Gillman came together causing major damage on Alexander, Sr. and Gillman, with Sr showing that he was very upset with Gillman, Alexander made the call for the main event.

The Limited Sprints saw alot of action and a scary moment as Joe Day took a nasty flip leaving him unconscious and breaking the turn one gate. He was treated and released. The Limited Sprints started out with a crash and smash first lap with five cars coming together and getting together with all of them returning to action, it had just begun a wild night. Johnny Law brought out the red for a second time in a flip in turn one, With some of the front runners removed for not stopping fast enough under the red flag it was Timmy George who had to come from the back to take home the honors.

The Mini-Stocks had their share of action as well the other Howard; Scott won it in commanding style as his brother did in the Late Models by picking up the checker flag. The battle was for second. Thomas Hampton and William Hampton battled it with Thomas grabbing the runner-up spot.

The Limited Late Models had Roger Crouse working his way to the front and picking up the win in a command fashion. Crouse continues to be the class of the Limited Late Models.

The Street Stocks had a first time winner as the time limit ran out on the Street Stocks as many of the narrow tired cars had a hard time staying connected to the dirt and completing only 9 laps of the event with Jason Bronson picking up his first win and doing a dance on the roof of his 42. With one of the Paris Gang in tow (Charlie) in the 09 and Danny McCall's "Back in Black" finishing third.
