McCoy Celebrates First Win of Season at Hialeah

(Hialeah, FL; 8/6/2000) Veteran Danny Maddox helped Hialeah Speedway celebrate 46 years of continuous racing Saturday night as he grabbed the lead on lap 14 and went on to win the 46-lap Late Model Sportsman headliner at the historic Miami-area oval.

Phil Antonino set the pace until Maddox pressured and got by and was never challenged. Charlie Bible, Antonino, Bob Regula, and Kendrick Gomez followed at the stripe.

Travis McCoy led all 46 circuits to score his first win of the season in the Street Stock main, as he survived a spin to outrun Mike Orth, Craig Seewald, Chalo DeCastro, and John Covington.

Despite much pressure from Robbie Bean, Scott Rogers drove a great race to win the 30-lap Mini-Stock finale. Steve Quick brought his Chevy home third over points leader, Kenny Strong, and Jim Miner.

Troy Wright topped a large field of Cyclones to claim his second win this season over J.R. Fitch and Mike Powers, while Henry Talley bested a good field of Pure Stocks in a special run for the division. Mike Kohut and Roger Bohannon were second and third, respectively.

Mike Harrison proved best in the visiting Mini-Cup run ahead of Tom North and Doug Capps.
