Larry Goolsby Roars Into Victory Lane At The Bullring

Dave Westrich was on "Easy Street" Saturday night as he notched a win in his Super Stock #38 Monte Carlo, while points leader Arthur Conquest finished second. The J&R Motorsports machine was on a rail as David sliced through the field for the win. He was also sporting new paint and some new sponsors, with Custom Vinyl Lettering of Old Town and Dave's RV, Cross City on board. These, in addition to Woodham's Garage, make this a powerful team...one that will be tough to beat as the season moves on.

The class is growing and becoming FIERCE with the adition of Doc Batson in his #4 Camaro and the regular appearance of Robbie Pedrick in the Cline Racing/West Coast Seafood entry. Brad Turner had his #29 Monte Carlo completly restored and ready for action also.

"The car is real strong and we should run up front if I don't throw a fan belt that keeps wanting to leave the car before the race is over!" Brad told me before the event. Unfortunately, that's exactly what happened during the feature, forcing Brad to give up second place at the time and scoot into the pits for repairs.

Brody Giddens had another strong run and came home third in the #18 entry. John Luke was fourth and Doc Batson fifth in the strong feild of eleven cars that started the feature.

PURE STOCK

Jerome Brown had the Cheifland Flea Market #25 Camaro sailing as he finished first over a strong group of cars that started the 20-lap feature. This announcer was so impressed that he had a tendency to refer to Jerome as the "Newberry Express" as he marched on for the win.

David Kidd (#03) had a wonderful run in the Dr. Jay's Camaro and finished second. "The car was perfect tonight--a little squirrelly in turn two. I just wish I could have caught Jerome on the straightaway. We'll try again next week," said this happy driver.

Gerry Hodge was third in his #37 Buick Regal, while Jason Holbrook (#17) and Mike Sprague (#28) finished fourth and fifth respectively.

So, there sat Larry Goolsby in his race car, before the evening's events. Hot laps--completed. Speed trap times--excellent (although Dad wasn't giving away any secrets)--Car-- ready. No wait! It wouldn't start! It was acting like a dead battery and a frown came over Dad's face as he went to work under the hood. Larry shrugged from the cockpit and said, "We'll be all right."

Right he was, as mechanical woes conquered, he simply roared off and won the feature event. Joe Lawson (#20) has been improving each week and this week, had plenty for Larry Goolsby. The two cars ran off and hid while Mitch Clenny, William Stalnaker, and Jeff Stalnaker, Sr. had a battle of their own going for third place.

The race saw a scary moment, as Rebecca Clenny tangled with "Lil" J, Jeff Stalnaker, Jr. coming out of turn two on the fourth lap of the race. Rebecca's car took a straight shot at the sand wall, but came to a stop befor going over it. This pretty lil race car (and driver) sports the Gator Family Haircutters machine #3x and is only in its second week of competition. Look for Rebecca to run strong in upcoming weeks. Her husband, Mitch brought the team car (Gator Family Haircutters) home in third place.

Jeff Stalnaker, Sr. had a tough night. After erupting an engine in his #10 Pinto, he climbed into his brother, Charlie's #11 car and drove it to a fifth place finish. "I'm really glad Charlie was gracious enough to loan me his car tonight. I need the points!" Jeff was the point's leader in the division going into Saturday's action, with Larry Goolsby in second and hot on his tail.

SUPER STOCKS (10-lap Dash)
In an innovative move, promotor Dean Pruitt added a 10-lap dash for the Super Stocks, and Doc Batson (#4) came up the big winner. Doc will most likely be doing double-duty next week as he runs this division and also brings his Late Model Sportsman entry to the "bullring" for the 50-lap Dash for Cash. Fred Tuski finished second in the dash.

It was great to see Tony Dorman back after making the long drive from Perry, Florida. He had his # 2Olds Cutlass going strong and finished third in the dash.
