Leonard Again

(Gibsonton, FL; 7/22/2000) Greg Leonard couldn't make his heat due to a mechanical malfunction and had to start in the last position of the 16-car field, but that didn't let it keep him down as he took the point on lap 7, passing Taylor Andrews in the Dayton Andrews #88. He took the checker by a full straight away.

In the closest racing of the night, a full field of late models saw many lead changes and some surprises as well. Ken Nosbisch in the #41 Nosbisch Used Auto Parts had the lead, but couldn't hold it as his brother Jack Nosbisch, Jr. made it a family feud. As the two brothers battled, Bill Howard took a chance to join the two and eventually grabbed the lead. He never was really challenged the rest of the race with Nosbisch, Jr. in the second spot and Bobby Alexander, Jr. making a last lap pass of Ken Nosbisch for the second spot.

The Limited Sprints had Clyde Poole grab another, as he snatched the lead and Gene Lasker put the pressure on until the caution flew on lap 17. Lasker, running in the second position, pulled to the infield with mechanical problems. Poole wasn't to be challenged the rest of the evening as Johnny Law made a last lap pass for the second spot from Donnie Maxwell.

The tight completion between Danny Bowman and Roger Crouse caused some heated words and warning from track officials between the hots shoes in the Limited Late Models, but neither one could do anything with Jeff Matthews as he was the one to take the checker. Matthews was given a gift from Raymond Rodgers as he spun while leading.

The Mini-Stocks had Scotty Williams in the winner's circle with a commanding lead over Ken Rutledge followed by Scott Howard.
