Twelve-Year Old, Cody Bryant Leads Three Laps in Pure Stock Race

(Lake City, FL; 7/15/2000) If you were not at the Lake City Speedway last Saturday night, then you missed some TEE-riffic racing. Every class had a full complement of racers and every one came to race.

Every one agreed that the feature for the Limited Late Model Class was a great race. And it just happened to be the prologue for a great night of racing. Valdosta's "Sir" Oliver Hughes (#007) led from beginning to end. While Don Martin, Jr.(#73) and Ricky Fassel(#76) jockeyed for second and third. At the same time, Randy Merwin (#38) and TEAM Orange crush worked their way from the back of the pack to fourth place. It was a very clean race with the drivers highlighting their driving skills from every area of this race.

The Florida Modified race saw the continuation of what is turning out to be a heated rivalry between MacClenny's Derek Crawford (#25) and Interlachen's Chip Owen and his Flying One car. This week, the edge went to Chip Owens as he barely beat off a last-minute charge from Derek. Derek had started on the tail and made up the nine places to battle with Chip from lap three on. At the same time, Kenny Porter (#20), James Blackmar (#00), and Jimmy Singletary (#9) fought for the balance of the top five.

In the Street Stock Division, two hometown boys, Dean Sands(#44) and Buddy Spradley in the Power Country #2, fought one another and then outlasted Wayno Risner (#38) to finish 1, 2, 3. While those three jockeyed for position, the #66 car of Bill Lockhart worked its way from second to last to finish fourth.

The Pure Stock Class was a war of attrition. After leading more than half the race, Floyd Martin in the #1Jr was involved in an incident with three other cars which caused several cars to pit. After the incident, 12-year old Cody Bryant of Interlachen led the next three laps. The #22 car of Dave Dowling passed Cody with two laps to go to win the Pure Stock race. Cody Bryant then held off the #55 car of Joey Webb who finished third.
