Rogers Never Looks Back For Super Late Model Win

(New Smyrna, FL; 7/15/2000) David Rogers in the TM Ranch #11 Dodge took the lead in turn one, led every lap, and won the Super Late Model race. Past winner, Travis Kittleson in the #88 Bob Steel Chevrolet showed up with a brand new Lefthander car, and drove to an impressive second place finish. Pennzoil driver, Barry Willoughby ran his #74 to the third spot. Tom Root was back in his good-looking red, #19 Dodge Intrepid , and came home fourth over new driver, Joe Fitos, in the #63.

Randy Dye's #43 WHOG 95.7 Dodge and Chris Lawrence's #63 US Postal Service Chevy put on a very exciting show as they went side-by-side for many laps before the Dodge finally pulled ahead to get the win. Chris had his hands full with heat race winner Chad Allman's #67 Gator Golf Chevy, but managed to get second. Chad Pierce piloted the Biscuits and Gravy #57 to come home in the fourth spot over Kevin Ingrams #86 for the Late Model feature.

If you like Modifieds, you had to love this race. It was a big field, but the two cars putting on the real battle for the lead were Tank Tucker's #15, and Jerry Symons' #66. These two were nose-to-tail for most of the race with Tank holding Jerry off at the line to get the victory. Jim Flynn drove a great race in the Business Archive's #57, and followed the two cars to the stripe. Mark Vandevender in the Document Technologies #7 car came in fourth over Joe Middleton's #71.

Last week, Marty Pierce's Briar Construction #75 made it seven in a row, but this week Bob Doxie was back, and very fast. Bob pulled away early for the Mini-Stock win. Marty charged through the field and took the second spot. Third went to the #25 of Tim Clark, Ron Dubeau in the #94 was fourth, and Wayne Clark drove the V-3 to fifth.

Bob Andercheck's Sportsman #90 KOA/ Marines Camaro had carb trouble, but managed to run a smooth line and hold off the pack after the leader crashed in turn 3. John Nusbaums #70 "Bad Bumble Bee" was second, Jeff Millers O NO was third.

There was a massive crash off of turn 4 that took out several fast Super Stock cars, and tempers were hot! The #13 Olds of Winterstein was leading when both he and the #45 were sent to the pits for fluid leaks. Tim Ewing took control on the restart and never looked back to notch the win. Tim Bagnall drove Rick Picards/Witts Auto #9 to a strong second. Ed Zikowski pushed the #7 Barneys Leather Monte Carlo to third. Charlie Merz and Kevin Schultz rounded out the top five.

It was a fierce battle right down to the end as Rich Bolton II, made a last second pass on the #6 car to grab the win. Scooter Carpenter was third, Chris Sadowski was fourth over Joe Arnold. This is a great class to get started in racing without spending a lot of money.

Spectator race: It was Robert Freund in a VW Rabbit that was the winner of both sections.
