Joe Gill “911 Emergency Race” Winner

(Inverness, FL 6/17/00)
In their first race at Citrus County Speedway, the 911 Emergency Racers came in from all over the state of Florida. Kicking off the night on the eight-division schedule, Butch Yancey, representing the Pinellas County Sheriffs Department and David Cervantes of the Indian Rocks Volunteer Fire Department took the heat wins. Citrus County Sheriff's Department driver, Joe Gill won the pole on the pill draw and took his 85 Buick Regal to a flag to flag win over the 12 car field on his home race track. Bob Hart of the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, John Zurenda of the Pinellas Park Police Department, David Cervantes and Steve Wagner took the top five spots in the 20-lap feature.

Sport Wilson chased Scott Hendrickson for 15 laps of the non-stop Street Stock feature before Hendrickson got loose off turn 2, checked up for a moment and got tagged on the back chute and got turned around in the infield. Wilson went on to win with Victor Stanley on his rear bumper at the finish line. Wayne Lewis, Otis Hamilton and Don Teague took the balance of the top five spots. Cliff Erhardt and Victor Stanley got the wins in the heat races.

Mike Veltman picked up the 10th starting spot in the 17-car starting field in the Sportsman feature, going for his second three-peat bonus of the year. Alan Struble locked on to the point from the green flag and Mike Veltman worked his way through the field to run side by side with Struble for the lead in lap 15. Struble got sideways on three and four, taking Veltman out, bringing on a caution that sent both cars to the rear for the re-start. John Gann lost both fenders and his hood in a run in with the turn two wall in his heat race only to come back in the feature to salvage his first win of the season. David Dollar, Jim Smith, Rex Struble and Travis Nichols took the balance of the top five spots. Johnny Sanders and Nichols picked up the heat wins.

The Hobby Stock feature was working on lap 5 when Mother Nature dumped about three inches of rain on the speedway, bringing the very busy race night to a close.

With all the heat races and three features run, the program is considered a complete program and rain checks WILL NOT be honored.

Double features are scheduled for Hobby Stock, Mini Stock and Street Legal Junkers next week.

Late Models will have to wait for thee weeks to make up their lost feature since they will not race next week due to the TBARA Sprint cars being on the card.

July 1st will be the McNatt Plumbing 75-lap Late Model Shoot Out for a $3,000 win purse and paying out $15,000 for the night. Figure-8's will also have to be rescheduled for their make up race with a full schedule on the card for the next couple of weeks and their regular return will be in the all feature night scheduled for July 1st.

*CORRECTION*:
LATE MODELS WILL HAVE A MAKE UP RACE NEXT WEEK. They were not scheduled to be on the race card due to the TBARA Sprint cars making their annual visit. Next week’s program will be the largest show to date at the Speedway.
