Powers Double Winner at Hialeah

HIALEAH, FL - Capping off a great racing weekend, veteran Joe Winchell drove around David Weaver on lap 12 and went on to win his third 25-lap Late Model Sportsman feature of the year at Hialeah Speedway. Weaver led from the pole but was no match for Winchell who used the outside lane to his advantage in the victory run. Charlie Bible, Gary McGoron, Weaver, and Bob Regula chased Winchell to the line.

The 50-lap Street Stock event was led wire-to-wire by Rick Lutz for his first victory of the season. Bob Hogan gave chase but came up a bit short for second money over Jim Nall, Craig Seewald, and fast timer John Covington.

David Russell and his torrid Toyota keep rolling along in the Mini- Stocks as he claimed his seventh win of the season in the 25-lap main. Bill Miner took the lead on the second lap and appeard headed for his first win but Russell, working the outside lane, stayed cool under pressure and nipped Miner at the line by a bumper for the win. Kenny Strong claimed third spot ahead of Brian Sweeny and Scott Rogers in the final rundown.

Mike Powers notched a pair of wins, taking the Cyclone 25-lapper over Rick Lenhardt, Robert Sark, Heather Lunsford, and Roger Bohannon then came back to top the special 15-lap Pure Stock run ahead of Mike Kohut and Roger Pfau.

Track officials have announced that the track will be closed on Saturday night, July 1, as so many fans and competitors will be out of town celebrating the July 4th holiday. Action will resume on July 8.
