FAIR SKIES AND QUALITY RACING HIGHLIGHT BRONSON'S SATURDAY NITE

After a rain shortened event last week, the Bronson Race Series cars and stars returned to Bronson's 1/4 mile asphalt "bullring" to put on a complete show filled with quality racing. Several regulars had a tough nite, mechanically, including points leader in the pure stock division, Jerome Brown. Brown's # 25 Cheifland Flea Market Camaro broke a motor in the early going and was unable to continue. " Something in the valve train, maybe a rocker arm, let go", Jerome's dad , Rodney told me after the race. It was Arthur Conquest's birthday this week and he came to celebrate in his Rockoustic Sounds # 70 Nova. " I don't need any more birthday presents like this one," Arthur told me after the race. Arthur lost the motor and spun in his own oil in the heat race, thus eliminating the # 70 Nova from competition for the evening. Arthur jumped into his brother Jim's # 07 Camaro for the feature event to stay in contention for the points race. THAT car also broke during the feature. " I hope it was just a distributor or something like that. We're running a little short of motors around here!" , said the dissapointed, but optimistic driver. He will be back.

SUPER STOCK David Westrich was the winner of this hot division in his # 38 Monte Carlo. He was in a two car battle with Brody Giddens all feature long and survived two re-starts to pull off the win. " The motor was a little flat on the re-starts and it took time to build the momentum", Brody told me after the race. Dave ( Westrich) was strong all nite and we did'nt have quite enough to catch him." Robbie Pedrick finished third in the Cline Racing/ West Coast Seafood Camaro after recovering from a spin on lap seven of the event.

PURE STOCK

John Hughes found the right combination and pulled off the win in this division Saturday nite after Jerome Brown retired with a broken motor. It has become the Jerome and John show the past several weeks as these two battle for the front position. John had things go his way tonite and was treated to some fun at intermission as his two children competed in the kid's bike races. His son won his divsion, while his daughter crashed in turn # 1. She was uninjured and received the " Goody's headache award" in the form of a trophy. Dad, John played cheif mechanic, coach, and rescue worker as he helped his own kids compete in this fun event.

MINI-STOCK

What a wild affair this feature was! Larry Goolsby ( # 27) and Jeff Stalnaker, Sr. ( # 10) had the crowd on their feet alll feature long as they battled for the # 1 spot. With just three laps to go, Stalnaker's car got into the side of Goolsby on the main stretch as the feild re-started from a prvious caution The # 10 Pinto ( Stalnaker) slammed into the outside retaing wall, while Goolsby slid to a stop going into turn one. Both machines were done for the nite. This left the door open for Josh Har's in his Dr, Jay's entry out of Williston. He crossed the line first with Al Bouchard second in his popular mini-truck. Lil " J" had a great run in his uncle Charlie's # 11 machine and finished third. " I think I had something for the leaders. I was just playing it conservative.", he told me after the race. Bet Charlie will have a hard time finding a new ride, the way " the kid" is driving.

4-CYLINDER CRUISER

Lil " J" wasted no time in jumping to the front and winning this division. He was doing double duty tonite in this and the mini-stock division. The Papa J's mini-truck, with Dusty Bouchard aboard finished second and Mitch Clenny was third in his Gator Family Haircutter;s # 25 entry. Dusty was trying to back up his first ever win last week. Despite much encouragement from his Dad, Al, he was unable to complete the feat. Dad is sure proud, Dusty, keep up the good work.

Racing resumes next week, when the " thunder and lightning" Late Model Sporstman cars come a callin to collect a $ 1, 000 payoff to the winner. They will join the rest of the Bronson Race Series in their 50-lap feature. Racing starts at 7:30. Be sure not to miss this one!
