Tommy Schnader Takes 6 Pack

Chris Turner (Naples) is the current Budweiser Open Wheel Modified 6-Pack Series champion, as well the regular open wheel modified division champion. He continued his dominant style by taking the fast qualifying time for the second race in the 6-Pack series. He also pulled the pill for the outside pole, with Tommy Schnader (Largo) starting alongside in the pole position. Bad luck caused Turner to have to make a trip to the pits and start in the rear, while Schnader took the lead from the start. The caution flag flew for the first time on the second lap of the 50 lap race with an incident involving Joe Winchell (Hollywood) and Kevin Williams (Port Charlotte). One lap later Points Leader Dwayne Dempsey (St. Petersburg) and Mike "Stickman" Gamache (Palm Harbor) got together and both cars were sent to the rear.

Mike Greenwell (Alva) was the next victim of Yellow Fever as he spun into the wall coming out of Turn 4. Meanwhile, Schnader was holding the lead with Mike "Hobo" Hovis on his tail and Jimmy Wilkins, Jr. (Palm City) hanging in third. The freight train continued as the laps wound down but Schnader held on to take the win with Hovis, Wilkins, Winchell and Turner rounding out the Top 5 finishers.

Craig Amboyan (Port Charlotte) led the first few laps of the Marlow Werner Sportsman in his Ford Mustang until Jerry Bryant (Punta Gorda) passed him. Bryant led until lap 10 when he experienced mechanical problems and had to retire to the pits, making Amboyan the race leader again. Meanwhile, Mark Chapman (Fort Myers) and Points Champion "Smoldering" Dan Atwell (Naples) had snuck up through the rear of the field to be in second and third position by lap 15. Amboyan took the win in his first race back after a two year absence from local racing with Chapman and Atwell finishing second and third. Heat winners were Bryant and Cliff Bifaro (Naples).

A wreck on the first lap of the Cowboy Cadillacs involved half the field and sent David Walter (Bonita Springs) flying through the air going into Turn One but he was able to continue the race . Points Leader Don Vanacker (Punta Gorda) then flew to the front of the pack in his fast Ford truck. Hugh Alexander (Punta Gorda) ran a distant second with third place Justin Bryant running half a lap behind. Vanacker took the win, followed by Alexander and Bryant Robert St. John (Arcadia) and Buck Wilson (Arcadia) were the heat winners.

Richie Anderson (North Fort Myers) took the lead at the beginning of the Cat Country Limited Late Models feature with Johnny "Action" Jackson (Ellenton) in close pursuit until he experienced mechanical difficulties, retiring to the pits for the evening. On lap 6, Jeff Dufresne's (Fort Myers) engine blew causing an oil spill. Points Leader Glenn Morris (Bokeelia) slid in the oil causing him to hit the back wall hard, bringing red flag conditions and a scary moment as race fans waited for Morris to emerge uninjured but unable to continue racing. Anderson stayed in the lead with Chris Libak (Fort Myers) and Rusty Hillman (North Fort Myers) battling it out for a distant second. In the end, Anderson emerged victorious in both the feature and his heat race but was disqualified in post-race technical inspection. This gave Libak the win with Hillman finishing second and Rookie Kent McLean (North Fort Myers) third. Hillman also took a heat win.

The Thundering Herd, AKA Road Warriors were able to complete 3 laps of their feature before the caution flag flew for the 24 car field. Shane Bryan (Naples) took the lead with Donna Connolly (Lehigh Acres) and Duane Campbell (Sarasota) following behind to form a three car freight train. The checkered flag flew after 11 laps due to the 30 minute time limit leaving Bryan the winner, Connolly in second and Joe Bosey (Englewood). Heat wins went to Campbell (Sarasota) and Mike LeBeau (Port Charlotte).

June 3 will be Do the Right Thing Night at CCS, as the Speedway honors all recipients of Do the Right Thing awards. Any youth wearing a Do the Right Thing T-shirt will be admitted to the Charlotte County Speedway free and will ride on the track fire truck in the parade lap. The 911 racing division, whose drivers are all law enforcement officers from throughout the state, will be racing. They will be joined by the FasTrucks, Dwarfs, sportsman and mini stocks, as well as a 50-lap limited late model race.
