Winchell Winner At Hialeah

HIALEAH, Fla. - Keeping the fans on the edge of their seats for the final half of the 30 lap late model sportsman feature, Joe Winchell edged Travis McCoy at the line for the win Saturday night at Hialeah Speedway.

McCoy led from the pole and had things well in hand until Winchell closed in and began to really put on the pressure by lap seven. Winchell would poke the nose of his mount inside then outside, looking for a break to gain the lead. Finally, out of turn four on the white flag lap, Winchell blasted outside and nipped McCoy at the stripe by inches for his second score this season. Danny Maddox, Kendrick Gomez and Bobby Shelton completed the top five.

Ken Ammerman led the 30 lap street stock feature two different times including the final 12 laps to claim his first ever win in the division. Ron Wilson and Chalo DeCastro also led but it was Ammerman who had things together this night as he out sped Ford mounted Craig Seewald for his first win of any kind in several seasons. Mike Orth checkered in third spot over Rick Lutz and DeCastro who became the new point leader.

Veteran David Russell turned back all challengers for his fourth ministock feature win of the season in the 30 lap run. Two early crashes thinned the field but Russell, with Scott Rogers in tow, drove away from the field for the win. Kenny Strong checkered a distant third over Eddie Lowery and David Flowers.

Cyclone action saw Richard Valentine become a first time winner as he claimed both his heat and the 30 lap feature. Starting up front, Valentine had no worries until lapped traffic became heavy at one point but once through that it was clear sailing to the checkers. J.R. Fitch, DominickFulco, point leader Roger Bohannon and C.J. Haycraft chased Valentine to the stripe.
