Leonard By Lasker For East Bay Sprint Win | Action was once again the attraction at the 1/3 mile clay oval with Bill Howard picking up the Late Model feature. Jeff Matthews catching a break in the Limited Late Models to pick up a win with a car that had no power. In the Sprints Greg Leonard again is very impressive notching another featurein his belt. In another close one Tommy Mena held on for a win in the close race, he was the man in victory lane in the Street Stock Division.
Rodger Crouse looked hungry for his first win in his #32 Late Model as he took the lead on lap two but as it turned out to be a night mare. With pressure applied lap after lap by Dave Schmauss, Bill Howard, David Simpsonand Bobby Alexander Jr. Crouse found the inside wall making him park it for the night on lap 15. But the action had only just began. With sheet metal being bent by the close side by side racing by the top five it came down to a two lap shootout between Bill Howard, David Schmauss, David Simpson, and Donnie Tanner. Howard was up to the task at hand as he brought home cash in a well earned victory. In his first night out of the box the 01 of Larry Vires car had and impressive showing in the Larry's Auto Body late model. It is great to see so many nice looking competive cars.
The Street Stock division was a nail biter. In the hot race of the night it came down to the who's who's and wants it the most. Mena was not to be denied the checked flag but David Rodgers was not going to make it easy. Mena who was hugging the inside line after he took the lead on lap 5 from Mike Kessell and coming from the middle of the pack. But as the yellow flew often it kept the racing tight with a nose to tail starts as the 84 car of Bruce Ponti tested the hardness of the front stretch wall on lap 11. Again as Rodgers and Danny Paris put the heat on Mena he used lapped traffic andthe inside line to keep his advantage. As the two to go came out the yellow would fly again. The action would heat up before they made to the start finish line as Rodgers and Paris would spin and Paris having to retire from the damage he received from the turn four problem which put Danny McCall in the third spot. As it turned out that was the way they finished.
The Mighty Mini Stocks had the closest race of the night as the "Little Guys" once again put on a great show with a last lap five foot victory by Devon Dixion over Scott Howard. The mini's had a the usual lean on me racing and who will be the man on top. As the laps were being counted on there fifteen lap main event it obvious that there was not going to be any clear cut winner. As it turned out the numbers 2 and 47 put on a great show. As Dixon thanked his sponsor of the BC Family he enjoyed a well earned victory.Bill Howard in the Howard Landscaping 47 finished second he showed way this competitors are a class act as he congratulated Dixon.
The hot Sprint Car class was hot as they took a track that was a little dry and one that was going to take the rubber making it a fast track. With Gene Lasker on the front row the question was can he be beat? The black 41 looked like he had the field of fifteen cars covered. But we all know with the young guns in the Sprints anything could happen and most likely will; and it did. Midway thru the twenty-five lap main event Lasker was out to a comfortable lead with Greg Leonard in second. As the young gun trailed the veteran it was going to be the race we have come to expect and enjoy. Leonard put pressure on and eventually over took Lasker and never looked back. Lasker on lap nineteen spun putting him out of the event. Leonard wasn't challenged the remainder of the event as Johnny Gilbertson and Brady Alvis finished a distant second and third. The one car who failed to make the call for the feature was Brandon Dover who destroyed his car with a backstretch crash with Greg Leonard.
The Limited Late Models as always gave the fans something to stand up for as they had there side by side racing we have come to expect and enjoy. With agreat deal of trouble getting the race started Jeff Mathews did a loop and backed into the front inside wall and figured to be damaged, he wasn't it was only cosmetic. With the Crouse, Gansner, Evonosky, Yeager, and Blackman did battle it was up for grabs. On the closing laps Mathews let it be knowhe was the class of the field as he passed Rodger Crouse for the lead.
Congratulates to Robert Bell for winning the Bargo Auto Sales fanparticipation.
