Seewald Winner in Hialeah Street Stocks

HIALEAH, Fla. - Despite an ill handling car, veteran Bobby Shelton held off the advances of Travis McCoy to win the 25-lap late model sportsman feature event Saturday night at Hialeah Speedway.

Driving Steve Dielmann's AA Radiator Camaro, Shelton out raced Charlie Coyle to the first turn to take the lead on the opening green flag. Things went smoothly until lap 11 when Coyle tagged Shelton and the latter spun off turn 4. Shelton went back to the lead, and as the handling went away McCoy closed in to pressure, but settled for runner-up honors. Gary McGoron, Larry Rogero and Danny Maddox completed the top five finishers.

Claiming one for the Ford faithful, Craig Seewald, wheeling a Thunderbird, won his heat and the 25-lap street stock feature in fine style. Never a big winner, Seewald did everything correctly and held off Bob Hogan and Jim Nall for the win, his first in several seasons. Points leader Curt Haywood and early challenger Jake Reedy were next to the stripe.

Scott Rogers built a big lead early then held off the pressure from rear starting Tim Jones to win the 25-lap mini stock finale. Jones stormed through the dozen car field but once he got to Rogers, courtesy of a caution flag, he could not rattled the second year driver as Rogers put his Toyota in victory lane for this first time this season. Jones, Kenny Strong, Bill Calder and Bill Miner claimed second through fifth positions.

Wheeling a big Chevrolet Caprice, Troy Wright registered his first cyclone feature win of the season. Never challenged throughout, Wright took the leadon lap two and motored away for the win over Heather Lunsford, Mark Schoedinger, point leader Roger Bohannon and Susan Reid.

Racing continues weekly under the South Florida Racing Alliance sanction on the historic third-mile oval.
