Bontrager and Wogoman top "Wild" night at DeSoto

Bradenton, Fla.-Todd Bontrager#8 continued his domination of the DeSoto Truck series taking his second feature win in a row this year. "Chargin" Charlie Ward in the #03 Truck took the lead early but it was Bontrager battling his way through the field from back in the pack to the rear bumper of Ward. With two laps to go Bontrager dove low going into turn one and got under Ward but as they were coming out of turn two Ward tried to use a defensive move to block Bontrager by trying to dive low but he couldn't make the move and ended up spinning down the back stretch and into the tire barrier on the infield. The officials gave Ward his spot back but on the restart Bontrager powered his way past and took the lead with two laps left, Ward obviously hurt his truck dropping out of the top five, Paul Grenewicz #48 took the second spot, #71 Leonard McCue finished third, Scott Engle took fourth in the #70 truck and rounding out the top five was the #99f of Danny Foster.
Jimmy Best #67 started on the pole for the Limited Late Models but it was Wayne Morris#56 who powered by Best to take the early lead. Morris whose car was patched together from an incident the night before at the SARA race in Orlando was running strong and was showing no signs of problems from it. Meanwhile low qualifier #01 Jeff Wogoman who blistered the track earlier with a 14.86 lap moved up into second followed closely by track favorite Sonny"Gumby"Hughes #45, right behind Hughes were Desoto Late Model Vets #23 Mike Abbott and #5 Joe Boyd who ran double duty Saturday in the trucks as well as the LLM's. #07 Jeff Scofield was battling his way to the front when running side by with Best they got tangled up and spun Scofield ended up with a flat and Best with some heavy front end damage both were sent to the rear. From the restart it was Wogoman and Morris racing hard for the lead with Wogoman taking it in turn four, Morris came back on him but spun coming out of four, during the caution Morris pulled beside Wogoman and had a few words with the new leader before going to the rear for the spin. Former DeSoto track champion Clint Slaggy #79 who finished second in Oralando the night before gave it his all to get by the second place car of Hughes but just when it seemed he would had the line he looped the car coming out of four bringing out the caution and then having to leave the race. While Highes and Wogoman broke away from the pack the race behind them was really heating up as Wayne Morris made his way back up through the field to make his bid for the third spot which was being held by Abbott who was also trying to hold off a hard charging Boyd. Boyd Made his move and got by Abbott who also brought Morris by. Several laps later Abbott suffered mechanical problems and had to retire from the fray. After that is Wogoman all the way as he finally got the monkey off his back and took the win followed by Hughes, third went Joe Boyd, fourth to Morris and good run for fifth was young Tommy Younkman in the #36.
Teddy Nelson #17s winning streak came to an abrupt end early in the Open Wheel Modifieds race when he got caught up with the #9x of Brent Yodder who smacked the front stretch wall and came across leaving Nelson no where to go but into Yoder ending both of their nights. Former DeSoto track champ #15 Bill Davis took the early lead but couldn't hold off a determined John Grimm #72 who took the feature win. Lee Collins #89 returned to the Open Wheels and brought home the third spot, Steve Hauser #52 in his back up car took fourth and #32 Ronnie Skipper was fifth.
Brian Teeters #97 took the early lead in the Rough and Tumble Sportsman feature event with a full fledge battle going on behind him. Then on a red flag for a blown motor by #98 Lonnie Miller the cars were stopping infront of the flagstand #41 Gus Coorssen slammed into the parked #18 of George Shaver, Shaver and Coorssen then got into a brawl at which time Teeters exited his car to help stop the fight, deputies were called and the fight was stopped but not after the fans in the stands were on their feet cheering the combatants on! All three were dqed from the race with possible suspensions in store for Shaver and Coorssen. #21 James Carter took advantage of the DQ's and with a great last lap pass got by #89 Jimmy Cook for his first ever feature win. Fred Wagner #22 finished in the third spot, fourth was #86 Jeff Anderson and #03 "Bear" Carlson was fifth.
Street Stocks saw points leader Dennis Wilson #42 was able to get by a good running Chet Roberts #95 to take the feature win, a pair of eight's finished third and fourth #8 Rich Clouser third and #8 Sue Purlington fourth, fifth went to #3 Duane Best.
Peggy Hurst #3 powered her way throught the field to take her second feature win of the year, a happy Hurst stopped her car on the start finish line and did a cartwheel with the checkered flag in her hands to the delight of the fans. Troy Davis #57 got by the #52 of Rick Hurley in a side by side race to place second. #69 Troy Buckles came across fourth and finishing in the top 5 #20 Greg Banach.
Last years point champ in the Mod-Minis #77 Lee Davis roared through the field to take the lead and the win #22 Randy Koon was second, third #73 Shawn Williams, fourth #23 Don Keithly, fifth #3 Matt Watts.
#95 Clay Joseph held off the #30 of Jesse Dutilly to win the Mini-Stock feature, Tony Elrod #70 came from near the rear to place third, #22 Shane Whitbeck fourth, rounding out the top five was was the #41 of Todd Blevins
