Greenwell takes first 6-pack LLM race at Charlotte

Punta Gorda, FL- The first leg of the Limited Late Model 6-Pack Series took place at Charlotte County Speedway on April 22. Mike Greenwell (Alva) was the fast time qualifier but pulled the pill for tenth starting position. Randy "Hondo" Fox (Lehigh Acres) and Brad Barkis (Fort Myers) started on the front row for the race. On the start of the race, third position starter Richie Anderson (North Fort Myers) stalled on the backstretch, causing a complete restart. Fox led the way with Barkis on his tail until Doug Moff (Fort Myers) bumped Barkis causing him to spin. Moff was sent to the rear and Barkis again ran second until another bump allowed Greenwell and Johnny "Action" Jackson (Ellenton) to pass him. A three-car battle for first then ensued with Leader Fox, Greenwell and Jackson playing freight train. The caution flag fell several times and still Fox held off Greenwell until the 82nd lap when Greenwell deftly slipped under Fox to take the lead. On yet another restart!
, Fox and Jackson somehow got together coming out of Turn 4, taking them both out of the race, which moved Barkis back up to second. Greenwell took the win and may be on his way to a second Six Pack Series championship by season's end. Barkis finished second, while Hard Charger Glenn Morris (Bokeelia) finished third. Travis "the Real" McCoy finished a respectable fourth and Anderson rounded out the Top 5.
Florida Dwarf Car Federation also made their monthly appearance at CCS. George Landis (Boynton Beach) in his Terry Labonte miniaturized lookalike led the first half of the race until he spun his car and was sent to the rear. Mario Giard (Hollywood) took over first position and led the way to the checkered flag and was followed by Mark Landis (Delray Beach) and Bob Quick (Jacksonville). Giard and Mark Landis also were heat winners.
A multi-car pile up on the ninth lap of the Q Country Pure Stock feature sent Points Leader Chuck Sweet (Port Charlotte) to the pits on the wrecker hook, along with Rodney "Coyote" Calico (Port Charlotte). On the restart, Chris Davis (Lehigh Acres) made her way around Scott Moran (Port Charlotte) to assume the second position and battled with third place John Dienst (Fort Myers) to maintain her position as the laps wound down, while Utter built a considerable lead despite several more caution flags. Dienst did his utmost to pass Davis but she held off her fellow competitors to finish second behind Utter. Although, Moran finished third he was disqualified in post race technical inspection, moving Mark Ludvigsen (Fort Myers Beach) to finish third. Utter and Dienst were heat winners, as well.
Thirty-two Road Warriors took the green flag in their 20-lap feature race and it quickly became a crash festival with Chris Oncken (Fort Myers) leading the way and taking the win, followed by Alan Molter (Naples) and Wayne Wilson (Fort Myers). Randy Hankins (Cape Coral), Dave Doherty (Fort Myers) and John Plakiotis (Port Charlotte) took home heat trophies.
The Cowboy Cadillac division had a curfew-shortened race with Robert St. John (Arcadia) taking the win in both the heat and feature race. Justin Bryant and Joey Gilbert (Fort Myers) rounded out the Top 3.
The limited late models return again on April 29 for the Keels and Wheels Limited Late Model Challenge,
a special 50-lap race that will pay $1000 to the winner. Also, on the racing program are open wheel modified, sportsman, mini stock and road warrior divisions.
