Bresnahan Blasts to L.M. Winners Circle

Late Model action saw points leader MikeBresnahan win the luck of the draw for an outside pole start in the“Goff Racing Big Purse Challenge” Saturday night at Citrus County Speedway and it was all over but the shouting from the green flag.Bresnahan cushioned his point’s lead with a heat win and the $1300 feature win, driving away from the rest of the field with little difficulty. Richard Pratt moved from his 8th starting position to asecond place finish just ahead of two-time winner Herb Neumann Jr.Neumann was going for a $1,000, three in a row bonus, but just couldn’t pull it off with some heavy hot shoes holding him off in the 30 lap main event. Tate Pierce and Robert Elting round out the top five. Defending points champion Mike Veltman made it two in a row in Limited Sportsman action out powering Mike Holm, Jim Smith, Rex Struble and Mark Gillette to his third checkered flag of 2000. Veltman came from his 12th starting spot working the second groove all the way to the front by lap15 of the 20-lap main. He will be going for a $200 three in a row bonus next week. Veltman and John Gann took the heat wins. Ernie Reed took his first trip to Victory Lane over a 27 car StreetStock field. Sport Wilson snatched the early lead away from Dean Lawyer using the outside groove all the way to the front by lap five. Wilson held the lead until he lost his power steering belt and then the waterpump went away causing an overheat sending him to the infield. Ernie Reed picked up the lead and the win on Wilson’s departure. Dean Lawyer finished second ahead of Wes Wilson, driving for his dad after losinghis ride in a crash in the second heat. John Smith and Otis Hamilton picked up 4th and 5th place finishes. John LeVecque, Scott Guthman and Otis Hamilton took the heat wins. Mark Sowell was the dominant force in the Mini Stock 20 lap main with point’s leader George Neumann riding in his tire tracks at the finish line. Mike Moore, John Coleman and Don Faunce finished in that order after a heated battle for position. Frank Coleman and Neumann took the heat wins. Chris Hooker was top shoe for the third time in the Hobby Stock main event and he was the only one of the top three to survive pulling the heads in tech when it was all over. This was Chris’ third trip to Victory Lane out of five races. He was just two spots short of takinghis fifth heat win in a row. J.D. Goff and Mike Ruff finished second and third but lost their spots after they were found illegal in tech inspection. This moved defending champion Roy Perkins up to his third second place finish. Richie Smith, Scott Teague and Jim Peters moved upto finish in the top five. Heat winners were Mike Bell, Richie Smith andKreg Belcastro. Defending Champion Robert Aaron had it all together over a 14 car Figure 8 field, taking his first feature win of the season and denying Gary Swing of his three in a row bonus. Ken Crews led for the first 14laps of the 15 lap main event only to lose it coming off turn 2. Aaron worked his way up from his 8th starting spot, patiently picking off 7 cars, one at a time. Ken Crews salvaged second ahead of two-time winner Gary Swing, Charley Meyer and Victor Stanley, who made his first run in Figure 8 action for the 2000 season. Doug Auriemma took a flag to flag win over a 13-car Street Legal Junkerfield in a wild finale for the night.
