Neumann Jr. On a Roll at Citrus

Inverness, Fl.- After surviving a six-car crash in the secondheat, Late Model hot shoe Herb Neumann Jr. is proving to be the man to beat at Citrus County Speedway. Neumann was unable to finish his heat but after making the cosmetic repairs necessary to run the 30 lap feature, he came from the rear of the 12 car field to pick up the point in the final 10 laps of the 30 lap main event and nailed his second winin a row.

This qualifies him for a $1,000 bonus next week if he can make it three in a row in the Goff Racing Big Purse Challenge. Herb Hoeflerheld out for a second place finish after losing the point to Neumann. Pole sitter, Bruce Smith, led for the first 10 laps but slipped back to 6th before recovering and locking on to a third place finish over Gene Fox and Brad Atkins. Mike Bresnahan won the first heat but had a motor go away on him while holding the lead in the feature run for his first DNF of the season. Time Sharrone took the second heat but developed a leak in his racer, retiring him at the mid point in the feature race.

It’s all or nothing at all for defending Limited Sportsman champ Mike Veltman. With two DNF’s in the record books after four races, Veltman is batting 500, scoring his second feature win of the season Saturday night. Pole sitter Jim Smith finally got his new racer dialed in and was the only car that had anything for Veltman, scoring a second place finish. Mike Holm out ran Tom Jones to the line in a close run for third with Rex Struble right in the mix for a 5th place finish. Veltman and Jones locked in their heat wins.

Scott Hendrickson was top shoe over the 24-car Street Stock division taking his first trip to Victory Lane at Citrus County Speedway. Ernie Reed Jr. locked on for the entire 20 laps but couldn’t make the pass and spent the final laps holding off points leader Wes Wilson who climbed from his 16th starting spot to finish third. Fred Tuski and Wayne Lewis round out the top five. Lewis, Otis Hamilton and Sport Wilson took the top spots in the heat runs.

John Coleman logged his first Mini Stock win of the season over the 14-car field. George Neumann see-sawed with the front three for the best part of the 20 lap main, nosing out Mark Sowell for second at the checkers. Kevin Harrod and Frank Coleman diced for fourth with Harrod just nosing Coleman out at the line. John Coleman and Mark Sowell took the win in the heat races.
J.D. Goff was another driver to take his first trip to Victory Lane for 2000. He locked on to the point when the green flew and never gave it up in the Hobby Stock feature. Roy Perkins found himself with his third second place finish of the season after holding off Michael Bell, point’s leader Chris Hooker and Mike Ruff. Allen Jacobson, Hooker and Bell took the wins in their respective heat races.

The Florida Legends saw David Tart take a wire-to-wire win in their 20-lap feature run. Doing double duty, local driver Jim Smith put the heat on all the way for a second place finish. Rod Sanders settled for third ahead of pole sitter Sam Whiting and Richard Morlan. Shaun Kipp scored his second Street Legal Junker win over a ten-car field.

Saturday night will see the Late Models going after the “Goff Racing Big Purse Challenge” plus Figure 8’s, Limited Sportsman, Street Stocks,Mini Stocks, Hobby Stocks and Street Legal Junkers.
