INEX Legend Winternational 2000

The INEX Legends Winternationals took the final checkered flag Friday night at Citrus County Speedway with over 150 drivers from all over the country and Canada participating in the 5-day event. Three division crowns were awarded on a series point system.

Billy Erwin from Statesville, N.C. took his second consecutive Masters Winternationals crown scoring his only win in the second of the twin 25's on Thursday night. He followed that performance up as fast qualifier on Friday night and a second place run behind Fitzgerald, Georgia's Eddie MacDonald Jr., who took a flag to flag win in the 25-lap finale. Thursday night was a make up for the Monday rain out and George (Cotton) Spry, Sr. went to Victory Lane in the first feature run on Thursday night.

Sixteen year old Jonathon Davenport, out of Blairsville, Georgia, was the only series twin winner, taking fast qualifier honors both Thursday and Friday night in the Pro Division and winning feature number 1 in the Thursday night racing action. He came back to win the final race of the
series on Friday night. Despite the fine showing, Davenport lost out to High Point N.C.'s Wayne Austin for the Pro Division Winternationals 2000 points crown by three points.

Fourteen-year-old Reed Sorenson out of Forest Park, Georgia looked like the man to beat in the Semi Pro Division. He was fast qualifier on Thursday night but ran into problems in the first of two 25-lap events, finishing out of the top ten. Jeremy Mills out of Cairo, Georgia took the win in that one. Curfew postponed the second scheduled feature and
Sorenson won the make up going away on Friday night with Tallahassee, Florida's Marc Mitchell right behind him at the checkers. Mitchell proceeded to put on a speed performance in qualifying that set a new Legends track record at Citrus County Speedway picking up fast qualifier
honors over the entire series, winning him a $100 bonus and a special trophy award from ICC Paints and Coatings. He proved to be the man to beat in the 25-lap finale taking the win and the series point's crown.
