DeSoto 2/13

Jeff Wogoman of Ft. Myers went flag to flag to win the Mike Heath & Sons 50 lap Limited Late Model feature event at DeSoto Speedway Sunday afternoon.
"I'd like to do that every race," said Wogoman, who placed fifth in last week's Late Model Icebreaker. "I plan to run every race here in both divisions."
Wogoman outpaced Joe Boyd of Riverview and Jonathan Brown of Sarasota to take the first race on the Limited Late Model schedule.
Boyd chased Wogoman throughout the race, but had a bit of setup problem.
"I'll have to get him next time," Boyd said. "I had a push coming off the corner. It was a tough race but I'll be back. I'll be running some of the races here."
The first race of the season for the Limited Late Models was a bit off as far as car count, but understandable to the drivers that participated.
"Speedway," Wogoman said. "A lot of cars went to that but some drivers said they'd be here for the regular season events. This division is going to grow. I plan to come in running hard."
The feature event was a standout for sponsor Mike Heath and Sons Construction.
"This is a nice track," said Mike Heath, owner of Mike Heath & Sons Construction. "I've got four I sponsor and I really enjoy bringing the family out here and just being involved with it. Miss Pat is a sweetheart and there are all good people involved."
John Grimm of Seffner grabbed the win in the Callaghan Tire Open Wheel Modified. Grimm edged out Lee Collins of Felda and Steve Hauser Jr. of Parrish 35 lap feature event.
"It was a good race, having to start back there with Teddy (Nelson), Lee (Collins) and everyone," Grimm said. "It's a good start to the season and we're going to be here every race."
Nelson held the lead through lap 23 but blew a rear end and Grimm moved into the lead and held off the hard running Collins.
The inaugural race of the DeSoto Speedway TQ Midgets featured Mark Gimmler of Palm Beach taking the checkered flag with Ralph Wheeler in second and Ted Durfee in third place.
Tommy Huffstutler of Bradenton came out rumbling in the Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Stock Minis. Huffstutler outlasted Clay Joseph of Bradenton and Jon Bailey of St. Pete who finished second and third.
Old pro Steve Gainey returned to the winner's circle in the Selective HR Solutions Sportsman feature event.
"We were running for fun, and it was," Gainey said. "Lonny gave me a run for it but it worked out for us."
Gainey edged out last week's winner Lonny Miller of Bradenton and Barry Carlson of Largo.
Mike Mitrisin of Brooksville claimed the Manatee Lumber Modified Mini feature win. Mitrisin paced Tim Rivieri of Dade City and Johel Chaves Fort Meade for the win.
Dennis Wilson Jr. of Bradenton grabbed the checkered flag in the Express Personnel Service Street Stock feature. Wilson held off a hard charge by Scott Faulkner of Sarasota and David "Smokey" Dick of Parrish to claim the win.
Newcomer Troy Davis of Bradenton took the Pure Stock feature win over Sarasota's Doug Carroll and Gary Flinn.
