Fifteen year old Bloomingdale High Student, Dakotah Stephens, took top honors with the Florida Sprint Car Association in his Rookie season.
The 2006 Florida Sprint Car Association race series consists of 20 races throughout Florida and South Georgia with 40 different competitors vying for the title of Sprint Car Champion.
Stephens claimed the coveted title on October 21, 2006 at the final points race of the 2006 season at North Florida Speedway in Lake City Florida.
Even though Stevens started at the back of the inverted race field week after week, he displayed consistent results by finishing 18 of the 20 scheduled events.
Dakotah won three feature races and two preliminary events and ten top-three finishes in his #79 Zink Family Motorsports/Better Leather Ford powered Outlaw sprint car.
Although Stevens is a new face on the Sprint Car circuit, he is not new to racing. His racing career began at age 7 in go-carts where he garnered 3 Championship titles and 1 Rookie of the Year award.
Dakotah said "Winning this championship is a great honor. Racing with the FSCA competitors has been fun and always extreme when the green flag drops."
In 2005, at age 13, Dakotah left go-carts to pursue the elite league of Sprint Car racing. Dakotah amazed fans, track managements and fellow drivers with his ability to win and race at the front of the field with industry veterans like Gene Lasker and Tim George, and ended his year with an impressive 6 place finish in championship points contrary to a late start in the season.
Dakotah won his first Sprint Car race on July 1, 2006 proving to be one of the youngest Sprinter's in recent Florida history to take the checkered flag.
Dakotah was born in North Carolina and his father and car owner raced NASCAR Late Model Stock cars for 10 years against drivers like Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Dennis Setzer. Stephens Racing was founded in 1988.
Dakotah's future goals are to attend college and get a Mechanical Engineer degree most likely from the University of NC in Charlotte.
He aspires to become a driver in NASCAR or the World of Outlaw Series.
