Jeff Sloan Opens Triple Crown With Big Win At DeSoto

By Jack Smith

Jeff Sloan had the second fastest time in qualifying Friday night at DeSoto Super Speedway but had to start outside second row after the die was cast inverting 5 cars. The inversion put Inverness racer from the Sunbelt Series on the pole next to Travis Cope in the 10x making his first start at the Super Late Model level.

Jeff Choquette had a horrble qualifying run fighting a car that had "turned 180 degrees" from the earlier practice setup, forcing him to start in the 11th position of the 20 car field.

Bresnahan led the early laps but by lap 50 it was evident that Sloan wanted the top spot, making the pass as the third and final caution flag waved at lap 53 for Travis Cope's spinout. Shortly after the restart Sloan took the lead and held it to the checkered flag.

While Sloan was weaving way around slower cars, Jeff Choquette, who had worked his way to third, and rival Jeff Scofield battled for the second spot for the last fifty laps or so. Several times contact was made and it appeared the youngster from Florida's east coast would get by Scofield, but it was not to be as the three Jeffs took turn in the winners circle getting interviewed and photos taken.

Complete race story and more photos and video to follow.

Now its on Bronson Motor Speedway, and another big test for Florida's top drivers. Races are in the evening Saturday, and then afternoon at Ocala Speedway for the finale.
