Steve Dorer Adds to Points Lead

By Rick Anges

Bradenton, Fl. - As the heat rose the teams were struggling to get a handle on the green racetrack. A week of rain washed whatever rubber build up had been set down from the week before.

Steve Dorer was one of the few who had figured it out as he clipped off the only 14-second lap in qualifying for the evening’s 100-lap feature.

Three rows were inverted Shawn Icely and Justin Larson on the front row. The green dropped and it was Icely who jumped out to the lead.

Dorer rode in the top five for most of the race saving his tires until just past the ¾ mark. Larson raced Dorer hard for several laps before the point’s leader was able to make the move for the second spot.

Icely had built up a sizeable lead while Dorer had battled Larson. It took Dorer just under ten laps to catch the leader. Catching him would be one thing but getting around would be the real mission.

Icely was really struggling coming out of turn four, sawing the wheel to keep the car on a straight line and also to keep Dorer behind him. Just when it looked like the fast qualifier would have to settle for second Icley slipped up and had to get on the binders to avoid contact with wall allowing Dorer to get by.

Dorer was able to cruise on to the win, Icely finished in the second spot, third was Tate Pierce, fourth went to solid running Justin Larson and fifth Lonny Miller.

Clear Channel Bombers: In only his fifth race in a brand new race car Scott Dawley notched his second win of the season. Dawley was able to hold off the charge of Michael “the Punisher” Crooks for the win, third was Randy Johnson, fourth Larry Brannon and fifth Rick Germony.
