Allisons tops Super Late and Mini Stock at Orlando SpeedWorld on March 31

by Dave Westerman

The pits were jammed Friday night at Orlando Speedworld with a total of 21 races needed to complete a big night of racing activity.

2005 Speedworld Super Late Model champion Jared Allison of Cocoa led all the way to capture his first SLM feature of the season. It took two tries to get the Super Late race started. Gary Bierlein spun coming down to take the green to cause the first aborted start, then Dusty Cornelius backed hard into the wall in turn one on the second try while Ronnie Roach also went around on the back stretch.

Allison zipped out to a quick lead as the race finally got under way with Barry Willoughby slipping into second. Chad Pierce was the driver on the move as he passed Roach for fifth on lap five and began to close on the leaders just as Bierlein spun to bring out the yellow on lap six.

Allison maintained his advantage on the restart but three laps later Roach spun in turn two and he was clipped by Doc McKinney and Doug Samion. McKinney headed for the pits as Roach and Samion continued. Samion brought out the caution on lap 14 as his car began dumping water on the track and a brief clean up was needed.

After the restart Allison continued to keep Willoughby at bay as Pierce moved around Matthew Stichmann for third. Dave Riley spun right in front of the leaders on lap 23 to bring out the caution another time.

Allison continued to set the pace on the restart but yet one more caution would fly on lap 28 of the 30 lap feature as Russ Shaw pounded the turn four wall badly damaging his racer.

Allison paced the field over the final two laps to score the win over Willoughby, Pierce, Stichmann and Eric Deffendall. Rounding out the top ten were Rick Bates, Bierlein, Roach, Riley, and Shaw. Heat races for the SLM were Allison and Willoughby.

Not to be out done, Jared Allison's dad Pedie Allison grabbed the lead from Josh Hermann on lap two and sped off with his second Mini Stock feature win of the year. Allison, who was not feeling well at all, didn't look like it as he dominated a good field of cars. Hermann was running second with two laps to go and spun allowing Michael Seay to move up and eventually finish second. R.J. Arnone made a great return to racing by finishing third ahead of Randy Blakeslee and John Cook. Completing the top ten were Jason Bertsch, Bob Miller, Norman Dismuke, Hermann and Heather Suggs. Mini Stock heats went to Allison and Seay.

Young Bryan Silas of Royal Palm Beach took his first career feature race win with a dominant performance in the Sportsman feature. After running away with the heat race, Silas zoomed out front in his Charlie Vest Owned PBG/Volusia County Racecars Chevy and never looked back in the 15 lap feature.

Timmy Todd, Jr. had a great run to come home second ahead of Richard Hight, Brett Woodley, Mike Soukup, Billy Cuddy and Eddie Thornton.

Jim "Hoot" Flynn drove his Business Archives/Got Beer? special to a green to checker win in the Modified main event over a strong field of cars. Alan Bruns made a big charge through the field to claim second right behind Flynn with Patrick Thomas taking third spot in his first ride in a Modified here. First heat winner Shane Held took fourth with Matt Wheeler fifth. The remainder of the top ten were Wayne Sorg, Brian Vickers, Jon Compagnone, second heat winner Blake Lehr, and Terri Bryant.

There was a scary wreck on the opening lap of the Super Stock feature as Scott Jarrett smashed into the pit barrier. The protective water barrel did its job and Jarrett was unhurt although his car was a mess.
Once the race got going, Ron Whaley took off from his pole position and led every lap for his first win of the season. Following the Daytona Beach driver to the checker were James Frisbee, Jason Foster, Vince Keeler, and Bobby Byars. Rounding out the top ten were Ray Mullis, Johnny Brown, Rick Taylor, Daniel Laszlo and Bobby Riley. Heat races for the Super Stocks went to Whaley and Matt Jarrett.

Robert Remus came home the winner of the Strictly Stock feature, his second career win. After the apparent second and third place finishers were disqualified in tech, Richard Barrenechea ended up second ahead of Bill Spence, Brent Bruner and Jay Mullins. Mullins and Remus were the heat race winners.

Eleven year old Wes Railing, Jr. can lay claim to something very few race car drivers can... four races in his career and four wins. After winning his heat and feature last week, Railing did likewise this week taking the Junior Stock Junior Division feature win over Zachary Curtis, his sister Jessica Railing and Jeff Cuddy.

Jessie Cuddy won her first career feature race in the Junior Stock Senior Division leading all the way over Cody Pierson, Devon Cuddy and Alex Fortune.
