Donny Lia to Drive for SS Green Light Racing at Daytona

SS Green Light Racing is pleased to announce it has rounded out it’s 2010 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series roster with the signing of two time Whelen Modified Champion and truck series winner Donny Lia for the upcoming NCWTS season. Lia will pilot the teams No. 21 truck for the season opener at Daytona under the guidance of veteran Butch Miller.

The Long Island, NY racer originally started racing Legends cars full time in 2000. A quick study, he scored over 20 victories before moving into the powerful Modifieds that are popular in the Northeast, in 2001. Lia quickly made a name for himself as a hard charger and fan favorite reaching the pinnacle of the Modified ranks in 2007; scoring six wins along the way to winning the coveted NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Championship.

From there Donny moved into the NCWTS full-time in 2008 and made an immediate impact in the series, scoring his first career win in Mansfield Ohio in May in only his 9th start.

The 2009 season held four more NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour wins as well as Donny’s second series championship in three years.
For SS Green Light Racing co-owner and general manager Bobby Dotter, Lia is the ultimate hard-nosed racer. “I’ve watched him race in the Modifeds for the last seven or eight years and he has absolutely impressed me with his speed and car control, those cars are a real handful to drive.”

After running the No.21 in Daytona, the SS Green Light team plans for Lia to share the SS Green Light No. 07 with Tony Jackson Jr. with crew chief Jason Miller. “When the opportunity came up to pare Donny with Jason Miller who was his crew chief in 2008 we worked hard to make the deal,” Dotter added. “I’m really excited about how the SS Green Light team is coming together for 2010.”

“I appreciate the interest and efforts that Bobby has made into making this deal happen for me,” Lia said. “He’s an old-school racer and is all about hard work, improving the team and winning races.”

Lia will join Jason White in the No 23 GunBroker.com Dodge and Sean Murphy in the Dietz & Watson No. 07 to make a potent three-truck team in the Nextra Energy 250. “I look forward to working with Butch at Daytona, he has won so many races and he is an absolute wealth of knowledge,” Lia added. “SS Green Light will have three solid trucks for this race and our goals are to work together and help each other get to the front. I’m hoping one of us will be able to push another into victory lane.”

Qualifying for the Nextra Energy 250 will be Thursday, February 11th at 6:00 pm. The race will be shown live on SPEED TV Friday, February 12th at 8:00 pm and will also be broadcast live on MRN Radio.
