| Brandon Martin Claims $500 FAST Cash Ohio Speedweek Bonus | MAUMEE, OH (6-30-09) by Scott Porter – FAST Public Relations
Attica, Ohio native Brandon Martin was within grasp of victory twice during Ohio Sprint Speedweek action while on his way to collect two consecutive Top-5 finishes (2nd at Hilltop; 3rd at Waynesfield) and a 12th at the finale at Fremont Speedway to ink his name on the $500 check. While the #11M Martin Excavating and Trucking Maxim collected the highest finishes for a F.A.S.T. competitor, the team also experienced some lows while on the road for a week. Limaland can be chalked up as one that can be forgotten with racing incidents taking Martin out of both his heat race and the B-Main. However, his impressive runs at Hilltop and Waynesfield were enough to hold off Byron Reed and F.A.S.T. Rookie Cap Henry in the chase for the $500 bonus. Both Martin and Henry made appearances at every Speedweek event contested, while Reed opted out of competition at Eldora.
It was the sight of the tail tank of the #1Z of PA Posse invader Stevie Smith that Martin and the rest of the week’s competitors saw a lot of over the course of eight nights across the Buckeye State. Stevie Smith would go on to become the overall winner of 27th edition of the Ohio Sprint Speedweek after collecting two wins (Hilltop & Waynesfield) and two other podium finishes (2nd at Eldora; 3rd at Fremont). The Zemco #1Z team loaded up after Fremont to go at it for one more week as the Pennsylvania version of Speedweek started up.
Brandon Martin would finish 15th overall in the final Speedweek points, while current Kistler Racing Products F.A.S.T. Championship Series points leader Byron Reed would finish 19th after making 5 feature events with the highest finish of 7th coming at Fremont Speedway. Reed would also collect two other Top-15 finishes at Millstream (11th) and Limaland (14th). Cap Henry collected a 26th place finish in Speedweek points and countless laps of seat time after racing on different track conditions and configurations over the course of a week.
The other “F.A.S.T. 14” qualifiers collecting Ohio Speedweek points where Mike Linder (29th), Mark Keegan (41st), David Harrison (45th), Bryan Sebetto ( 48th), Chris Andrews (50th), Duane Zablocki (70th), Caleb Griffith (72nd), and Andy Shammo (59th). Jumping aboard different rides for Speedweek were Craig Mintz (22nd) aboard the BK Sears Motorsports #20X and Lee Jacobs (11th) piloting the Token Racing #59.
Martin and the #11M will be awarded the $500 bonus this coming Friday night, July 3rd at Attica Raceway Park as Kistler Racing Products Fremont/ Attica Sprint Title competition returns to the 1/3-mile clay oval after two rain dates snuffed out Speedweek events at “Ohio’s Finest Racing” venue. The action will then head to “The Track That Action Built” to celebrate Independence Day on Saturday, July 4th.
Reed leads Craig Mintz (9 points back) and Brandon Martin (21 points back) in the Inaugural Kistler Cup Point Standings in the battle for the $10,000 cash prize awarded to the Inaugural Kistler Racing Products F.A.S.T. Champion. Mark Keegan and Bryan Sebetto round out the Top-5 in F.A.S.T. points, but those two drivers are only separated by 4 points. Bellevue, Ohio’s Cap Henry leads Kevin Lee (31 points back) and Daune Zablocki (97 points back) for the F.A.S.T. Rookie of the Year Award.
