Midrace Altercation Spoils Jason Young's Debut

Memphis, TN (June 27, 2009) Jason Young was poised for a strong run in his first race in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at the MemphisTravel.com 200 but a multi-truck incident on lap 64 left the aspiring Texas driver behind pit wall for lengthy repairs and relegated the SS Green Light Racing No. 07 to a 24th place finish.

Young’s debut in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series looked to be a positive one after solid practice runs on Friday and a 19th place qualifying effort in which he picked-up over two tenths of a second from the practice sessions.

Several trucks got bottled-up in front of Young’s 3BR Chevy at the start of the MemphisTravel.com, being cautious Young laid back and let the field sort itself out settling into the 22nd position. His Silverado was tight after the drop of the green and he dropped back several more positions until the races first caution on lap 27. Crew Chief Bobby Dotter called Young to the pit for a chassis adjustment and the SS Green Light team topped-off the No. 07 with Sunoco racing gas.

Young restarted from the 27th position and he began to get a good feel for the truck, which is 800 lbs heavier than the late models he is accustomed to driving. Jason had progressed up to 23rd when the second caution flew on lap 52. This time, Dotter and crew changed four tires and filled the fuel cell again.

Having lost a lap to leader Ron Hornaday just prior to the caution, Young would restart inside the leaders. On the restart, he missed a shift and lost a position to Chris Fontaine. Ten laps later, Fontaine would cut a tire directly in front of Jason, who backed off to avoid hitting the slower truck. The truck directly behind Jason did not and slammed into the back of the #07 causing a chain reaction crash leaving Young with a badly battered race truck.

Young spent nearly 60 laps behind pit wall while the SS Green Light team worked feverishly to get him back on the three-quarter mile track to gain some valuable seat time. The end result was a disappointing 24th place behind Hornaday who won for the second week in a row.

“I’m disappointed for my first NASCAR race to end this way. We were just starting to get a good feel in the truck and I believe we were in position to get back on the lead lap,” said Young. “I feel we were running up to our expectations at the time of the incident, but I pretty much got flat run over. I had to check-up because the 84 slowed right in front of me, but I guess his spotter didn’t let him know or something. It’s a real shame to tear-up a good race truck like that.”

“I’m not really used to the transmission in the truck and that hurt on that restart or I might not have been in that position,” Young added. “I hate it for Bobby an all the guys as they worked so hard in the heat and they all treated me with class. I can’t say enough about the entire SS Green Light organization, how well they work together and how professional they were to race with. I’m hoping that we can run another race later in the year and turn around this disappointing finish.”

The NCWTS will travel to the Kentucky Speedway on Saturday July 18th for the Built Tough Ford 225. Chad McCumbee will return to the driver’s seat, as sponsor tiwi will again adorn the hood of the SS Green Light Racing No. 07.
