| Ohio Speedweek hits its midway point at Waynesfield Raceway Park | Camargo, IL (6-23-09) by Kelly Brown - Public Relations Director – It is hard to believe, but Ohio Speedweek is almost half way over for the competitors of the O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions. It has been a grueling week so far for drivers and teams alike, as they have fought tooth and nail each night. On Wednesday, June, 24th the seven race stretch in eight days will reach its half way point at Waynesfield Raceway Park which promises to be another exceptional race.
So far the 2009 edition of Ohio Speedweek has been action packed with numerous cars packing the pits each night, and prominent 410 sprint car drivers staging intense racing action. With Terry McCarl taking the win at Eldora Speedway and Tim Shaffer victorious at Millstream Speedway, it is now time for the racers to hit their midweek stretch to see who will continue the momentum they have gained thus far and parlay that into an Ohio Speedweek Championship. What stands in their way of getting into the homestretch is Waynesfield Raceway Park. This 1/3 mile bullring is known for its fierce racing action. This year will be the third season that Waynesfield has been a part of Ohio Speedweek. In the inaugural visit in 2007 Paul May was the final one standing in Victory Lane. May staged quite a battle with Byron Reed, but during their scuffle for the lead, the two touched wheels and sent Reed spinning. Reed would recover for a second place finish, but it was May who fought off charges from other drivers to take the win. Last year the event at Waynesfield Raceway Park was cancelled due to rain, but the O’Reilly All Stars did race there in August. That event saw Dale Blaney win from the outside pole position in his George Fisher owned sprint. The event did not see a single caution flag, so it was a fast and furious fight for the win. Lance Dewease challenged several times, but Blaney held off his charges. Currently there is a four way tie for the Ohio Speedweek point lead. Stevie Smith is currently up there, but this will be a track that the PA driver has yet to race at. Greg Wilson has a win in at 360 sprint at the track and a fourth place finish the last time the All Stars raced here. Rob Chaney has one-top five at the track, while Randy Hannagan has one top-five finish at the 1/3-mile. Who will emerge with the win and the point lead at the end of the night? The gates will open at 4:00 pm and racing action is slated to begin at 7:00 pm. Tickets for the event start at $20 for adults, ages 16 – 11 are $15, while ages 10 and under are free. Pit Passes for the event will run $30. For more information on the event you can call the track office at (419) 568-3201 or visit www.waynesfieldmotorsportspark.com. An excellent place to stay and relax when visiting Limaland Motorsports Park or Waynesfield Raceway Park is the Comfort Inn of Lima. They offer great rates along with a free deluxe continental breakfast and coffee. They also have free high-speed wireless internet and a fitness center. For more information on the Comfort Inn of Lima call 419-228-4251 or visit www.comfortinn.com.
