Jason Young to Make NASCAR Debut at Memphis

Mooresville, NC -- Friday June 19, 2009 – SS Green Light Racing is pleased to announce that Jason Young will make his NASCAR debut in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series "MemphisTravel.com 200 presented by O'Reilly Auto Parts” driving the teams No. 07 Chevy Silverado with the support of 3BR Racing.

A 26 year-old native of Houston, Texas Jason began his race career at the age of twelve racing karts where he earned numerous state, regional and national titles. From the karts he moved into the Legends ranks where he was the Texas State Champion in just his second year. He soon ventured into a late model and won two features in his first year and accumulated seven features in 2007 earning the Texas Super Late Model Championship. Jason has traveled the southeast extensively the last several seasons and has top-finishes in both the Snowflake 100 and the prestigious Snowball Derby.

Young is excited about his debut into NASCAR racing. “It has been a dream of mine to compete at the NASCAR level and I feel very fortunate to get this opportunity. The SS Green Light team has been running very strong this year with Chad McCumbee. We identified that they would be able to give me the quality of equipment that I need to showcase my talents as a driver in the Camping World Truck Series.”

SS Green Light co-owner and Crew Chief Bobby Dotter has tutored many young drivers over the last several years was impressed with Young at a recent test, “I think Jason did a great job when we tested in Caraway. He was smooth, conservative and made very consistent laps as he got used to the truck. He didn't overdrive the truck. Jason has a great attitude and has reasonable expectations for Memphis. Having the right mental approach is half the battle racing in this tough series, I think he will do well.”

“My goal is to learn to drive the heavier trucks as opposed to the late model which is 800 pounds lighter,” explained Young. “I want to make laps, take care of my equipment and finish the race on the lead lap. If we do that at a tough track as Memphis hopefully I will earn the respect of the Truck Series drivers and teams and get another chance to compete at this level.”

Ken Smith, co-owner of SS Green Light Racing is pleased to have Young in the No. 07. “We have been impressed with Jason from the first time we talked to him and Bobby was very upbeat following the test. Right now this is a one-race deal for Memphis and we are hoping that things go well and we can have Jason back in one of our trucks later in the year.” He continued, “Chad McCumbee is still the primary driver of the SS Green Light No. 07 team. We had no sponsor for Chad for this race and we would most likely not been able to bring the team to Memphis. The opportunity to run Jason is purely a business decision and should help us to keep the No. 07 in the top-ten in points. Chad McCumbee will be back in the SS Green Light Racing No. 07 at Kentucky Speedway with support from NASCAR technology provider tiwi.”
