BRAD ALLEN BECOMES THREE TIME CHAMP AT ACE

By Brenda Murphy

ALTAMAHAW, N.C -October 4, 2008- Brad Allen made history at Ace Speedway Friday night when he became the first to win three championships back to back. Twin 25 lap races were on the schedule and the championship was not decided until the last twin Modified race of the night.

Allen and his family, crew chief Sherry Allen, and engine builder and father J. W. Allen could finally relax after the cars of Richard Bailey and Josh Nichols touched tires while fighting for the lead. Bailey crashed on the frontstretch and Nichols ended up wrecked in the guardrail in turn two.

Allen along with his large crowd of friends, crew, and family spoke through tears in victory lane. Allen expressed that at first they hadn?t planned on racing this year but the chance to make history was a calling Allen couldn?t turn down.

Allen lead green to checkered in the first 25 lapper with Nichols finishing third. Jesse Ingle, III drove Allen?s back up car taking his talents from Late Model to Modified division. Ingle finished in the second position behind Allen but was disqualified when his car was found to be too low following technical inspection. This moved Nichols to the second position.

Randy Butner took the win in the second 25 lap race with Allen finishing second. With Nichols finishing in the 11th position, Allen's quest was over. Nichols also had a great year winning four out of the previous six Chase races which put him in the position to make a bid for the championship.

The Limited Sportsman division was won by Burlington's Ziggy Zimmerman. Zimmerman was in another time zone from the rest of the field. It was his eighth victory of the season.

Pelham's John Moore scored a second place finish to all but lock up the divisions Chase championship. Moore will have a twelve point lead going into the season?s final points race on Oct 18. Eden's Bobby Griffin continued to be consistent with a third place finish.
A. J. Sanders of Mocksville took another win in the Mini Stock race. Sanders lead from flag to flag to score his eighth victory of the season. Michael Tucker entered the night with a six point advantage. Tucker's car blew an engine and finished in the eighth position.

It looked like Tucker's championship dreams were gone until tech time. The cars of Chris Lawling, Kenny Dixon, Adam Baker, V.L. Richardson, and Bobby Yountz were disqualified in post race inspection.

As a result, Tucker moved up enough in the finishing order to leave with a two points lead over Sanders.

Xtreme racing was won by Burlington's Jerry Kernodle. McLeansville's Ben Walker finished second with Burlington?s Michael Neal coming in third.

Charlotte's Josh Turner led the final 21 laps of the Southeast Mini Cups to take the win. Elon?s Ed Peters finished second and Burlington?s Jason Turner finished in the third postion.

It was the Mini Cup?s last points event of the second at Ace and Peters claimed the championship.

Walkertown's Ronnie Clifton won in the 6 Cylinders class and David Sumner in the Street Stock.
