ASA Late Model Series Champion to be Determined at Gateway International

SSGLR Driver Sean Murphy Enters Event with 4-wins on Season 5th in Points...

Sean Murphy will pilot the #32 ASI LIMITED; Akzo Nobel; Spectrum Metal Finishing Chevy for the final ASA Late Model Series - Challenge Division points race of 2008. Although it's the final points race it will mark the first ever time Sean Murphy or the ASALMS has competed at the fast 1.25 mile oval track.

Murphy has a total of 4- wins on the season. He and the SS Green Light Racing team kicked off the year by winning the famed SPEEDFEST event at USA International Speedway in Florida.

Murphy then opened the ASALMS Points season by winning his sponsors hometown race, the ASI LIMITED 200 at O'Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis. Murphy got the hat trick when he won his third in a row at the Rusty Wallace owned track Iowa Speedway.

Murphy would grab another Indiana win at Salem Speedway. This win placed him as the only driver still in contention for the O'Reilly Triple Crown, which pays $100,000 to any driver who can win the 3-designated events.

Three of Murphy's victories counted towards the championship points and one was a non-points event. Murphy has started two races on from the pole. But the pole starts didn't seem to bring any luck as both events were his worst finishes of 2008. Murphy finished 16th at Berlin Raceway and 24th place at the Milwaukee Mile.

These races set Murphy back to his current 5th place position in the point's championship. He is exactly 150-points behind current leader Jacob Goede. Second place Peter Cozzolino has 132 points over Murphy. Third place Brian Campbell 62-points and fourth place Travis Dassow just 14-points ahead of Murphy. But points won't be Murphy's or the SS Green Light Racing Team's primary concern heading into the final round.

"I don't think we can think about the points too much," said Murphy. "It would have to be something really strange to happen for us to win the championship. It's disappointing, but it doesn't discount what we've accomplished this season. We have 4-wins, we set a few track records and we are inside the top five in point's right now, which is still better than most teams."

"We just need to go out there at Gateway and have some fun and do our thing," added Murphy, the 2007 Rookie of the Year Champion. "This is our kind of track and I think if we don't win the championship, but can end the points season with a win would make us all pretty happy."

Practice for the Gateway 100 begins on Friday afternoon concluding the day with Qualifying at 4:30pm. The 80-lap 100 mile event is scheduled to start at 4:30pm on Saturday, just after the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Race concludes.
